UFC losing its appeal?

10 years ago it would have been unthinkable the best HW and LHW fighters are not fighting in the UFC. Cards used to be stacked and you knew every fighter on it. Maybe casuals like the UFC more now but real fans know it used to be much better.

The UFC needs to trim most of the roster

Too many no name cans on the roster who cost the UFC money instead of make money for the UFC

Should be around 15-20 fighters per division only

UFC actually needs to be the best of the best again not just full of no name cans whose skill level are equivalent to bums fighting on the street
They have to keep a watered down roster in order to put on a certain quantity of shows. Another major difference between modern and past fighters is that fighters barely fight anymore. Most top fighters are fighting once maybe twice a year.

I'm watching UFC 283 here and looking at the card thinking "what is this absolute garbage" it's a fight night card!!

I remember back in the day the UFCs being stacked head to toe of unbelievable fights, that's what brought them to the dance, that's why it became so popular. It was slowly catching Boxing up as the no1 combat sport.

They had 20 of the elite fighters in each division, the best vs the best, lose 3 and you're cut from the organisation. How could you not love that?

Now we have 88 active fighters in BW alone.. 80 in LW, MW. This is why years are going by and we're not seeing the best vs the best.

Whoever booked Andrade vs Murphy needs sacking. The most mismatched fight I've ever seen.
UFC peaked in 2010. It’s the main reason I took a break from the sport after that.

True, didnt bother watching
just checked to see who won on tapology pick em

UFCs model is have the free cards have 1 big fight on it, the main, and then have the PPVs have 2 big fights on it, or 1 big fight with a few medium sized fights on the main. Charge almost $100 and give the fighters 10-15% of the revenue. Cut the ones or talk shit about the ones who badmouth the company. Slap your wife and start a slap league.

Also, I was not very excited about this card but it turned out to be very entertaining.

They’ve lost more legitimacy and quality over the years for sure. I try not to let that keep me from wanting to watch the fights I want to see though.

It has steadily been going downhill. Doesn’t stop me from watching. I will watch a few cards from top to bottom a year now, where I used to watch every fight on every card. Im torn with the fighters being “better” nowadays. They get paired with old legends who should no longer be fighting which gives the illusion that they are better.

At the gym I definitely have to disagree with the quality of fighters being better. I see first hand which fighters get picked for regional shows and I don’t think they are any better than the fighters were 10 years ago.

Not to me but I think I qualify as an MMA addict and that addiction extends far beyond the UFC.

When MMA passes me by, if ever, I won't even notice...

No you're just older and stuck in the "back in my day" zone.

Most of the practical and pragmatic crowd understand that the product/quality of product is better now, especially for such a new sport like MMA.

The reality is, our preferences and priorities change with time. As you get older you stop being so closely aligned to a fighter/team due to outside responsibilities in life, and your interest can waiver at times. Then comes the - "it was way better before" because you enjoyed it more. It is natural.
Well, that definitely isn't true. They have a ton more fight cards now per year than they used to. Fight cards were stacked top to bottom. Now, most of the time it seems that only the last 2 or 3 fights are really worth watching.

UFC should've been willing to pay Francis/Jon, and built a legit super card around it, IMO. At this point, idk anyone who watches mma other than hardcores.

Opposite for me actually. The last couple of years I could feel my enjoyment of watching an event gradually decline. But for some reason I really enjoyed this event. Got up nice and early, made some breakfast and coffee, watched everything from early prelims to the main event, and generally had a great time.

I think the long break from events did wonders for my passion for MMA.
"How can we miss you if you wont go away?"
