Brunson is an anomaly type fighter... He destroys guys he shouldn't beat and he loses to people that he should win against...so he's hard to predict IMO

I don’t think he’s so much an anomaly; he loses to the very elite of the division, and beats everyone else. The question is, Is Du Plessis among the elite of the division? I’m gonna say no. I like Brunson to utilize his wrestling and beat Du Plessis.

The unknowns here are what Du Plessis’ ceiling is, and if/how age will affect Brunson.

I think DDP is very good and I'm expecting Brunson to slip a bit. 39 is very old for this sport. I think DDP will win this and probably pretty easy. This is his coming out party.

Huh? With the exception of his losses to Kendall Grove and Anderson Silva, which were both robbery decisions, Brunson has only lost to elite level guys.

He's a proven upper level gatekeeper.

This is the fight DDP smashes through that gate. Also, that gate is starting to get old and rusty.

I just find it hard to bet on him...but his record is rather impressive...

Ill have to rewatch his last fight with Jared...if i remember correctly he fell apart rather badly ...

Brunson definitely has the skills to beat Plessis..that i dont doubt hes beaten the better quality opponents to this point...

DDP actually was the guy who ended Goldbergs streak ( house show test ). Fans almost rioted so they acted like it never happened and came up with the stupid stun gun storyline..

He's not even consistent over the course of a single fight sometimes as well.

Like, he wrestlefucked Till for 3 rounds and Holland for 5, but then goes in and was outwrestling Jared just as easily, but then for some reason just tired during the 2nd round and got finished lol.

He got tired because Cannonier is arguably the strongest guy in the division and was very difficult to control.

Cannonier is a top 5 at MW. Giving Brunson shit for losing to him is ridiculous.

DDP vs Derek Brunson. I saw the odds of DDP at -240. I don't expect this fight to be competitive. DDP will get him out of there before the end of round 2. Am I missing something?

If Brunson really does last significantly into round 2, then it wouldn't be a mismatch. DDP would be shown as superior, but not overwhelmingly.

Derek Brunson also feasts on 'dangerous' strikers.

He was underdog in all of the Shahbazyan, Holland, and Till fights recently. He won them all, and finished 2.

He's also beaten Hall and Machida.

Like you say, he quickly separates out the truly legit from the supposedly legit.

Edmen was a -400 undefeated favourite who almost always KO'd people in R1. Then he got Brunsowned.

I wouldn't bet on this fight, too unpredictable IMO. DDP has only had to defend 3 takedowns in the UFC and he failed to stop one of them, his cardio also isn't that good and he's on the smaller side for MW.

Brunson has a bad chin and cardio but I can see him dominating DDP on the ground. I don't expect the fight to be competitive but either of them could be the hammer.

Dricus seems pretty damn big to me. He said he's 210lbs on fight night, and he's shredded at that weight too. I'm not sure why you think he's on the smaller side for MW.

Also, he almost always increases his output in later rounds, so I'm not sure that his cardio is as bad as it looks either.

His tdd is still a question mark, though.
