The UFC really fumbled the bag with Francis

Now the UFC has to deal with their HW paper champ who has got an injury that will take least take a year to recover then another year to train and get into fight shape and then to promote the Stipe fight, he may not be fighting until early 2026

The UFC's obsession with Jones vs Miocic has caused them to fumble the bag with the division

If the UFC are smart, the way they can fix this right now is to strip Jones and give the belt back to Ngannou and give Jones a shot at the belt when he has recovered and in fight shape

Also the UFC must allow Francis to box and any other demands that he has

WME must be angry at Dana for losing Ngannou who currently runs combat sports right now

It was a draw or close win for Ngannou. Fury did nothing the entire fight, so the rounds he could have technically won were just because he was running away so Francis couldn't land.

Didn't keep score as I watched but felt like Fury was scoring more points, mainly with his jab. He came out aggressive but started fighting scared after the KD. Or more accurately, like a man with everything to lose.
Ngannou was more or less dictating the fight after that, shut down Fury's clinch game and looked like he was enjoying himself, but failed to land enough. He had the 10-8 round with the KD and another big round where he had Fury buzzed. He might've won a round or two after that but hard to say, not much happened apart from Fury keeping a distance and landing the occasional jab/1-2.

Francis isn't an MMA fighter at heart. The only reason Francis took up MMA was as a means to get to boxing. Fernand Lopez convinced him that it was easier to get to prominence in MMA (true that), since it was a newer sport and less stratified; he said that without the right connections it was almost impossible in boxing. So the only thing MMA is "vindicated" in is greater social mobility.

Fury was afraid to throw after he got caught with the first landed punch. Then he gets knocked down. so he fought hesitantly the rest of the way. Even got double jabbed a few times. He lost.

He really doesn't need MMA at this point. He left the UFC HW champ, KOing Stipe. He can make way more money in boxing and can get at least 1 big fight based off his performance.

Perhaps you are right. Now there is demand to see him fight the other elite HWs. If Francis wants to quit MMA that option is now on the table. But was just looking at the MMA side of it.

Once canelo, usyk, fury and AJ retire, there's no major sellers in the sport anymore. All 4 are on the way out now as well, and AJ's light is fading.

You people said the same thing when De La Hoya and Roy Jones Jr retired, then again when the Mayweather-Pacquiao era was ending, now its Canelo and Fury

The UFC could have co-promoted this fight or just taken some $$$ to let it happen as was done for Conor/Floyd, with Dana standing behind his UFC HW champ, Francis...instead the UFC let Francis go, went all-in on Jones at HW, but now Jones is gone for a year and they are set to crown a paper interim champ.

What a feel good story for Francis. PFL is probably *thrilled* too.

Ngannou had a whole list of demands, not just wanting to box lol
