Economy Trump's April 2nd Tariffs

Ehh...there's levels. Is he utterly and completely blame free? Okay no probably not. But call a spade a spade-he was one who saw the fallout and what was happening and spoke up even louder about what a bad idea it was.

It's disingenuous lumping Bessent and Navarro together and saying "one team, blame shared equally!"

If the Celtics lose a game and Tatum goes 14-18 from the floor with 15 rebounds and no turnovers and Jalen Brown is 2-15 from the floor with 8 turnovers...yeah they both are on the losing team but in that particular game they don't really have an "equal share" of the blame for the loss.

Sports analogies aren't going to work here, especially if you're going to use a successful team as your baseline.

Bessent joined this cancer of an administration eyes. wide open. He knew Ron Vera was on the team.
And he defended the tariffs on tv every step of the way. You can't even credit him for opposing something that even I, somebody who is practically finance-illiterate, knew was a stupid idea. Credit goes to people who don't let shit hit the fan, not for giving limp rhetoric after the fact about how its everybody's job to keep it from staining the white rug.

I mean, I just chose Boston but we can substitute a shitty team if you want LOL.

But in all seriousness, it's not about "giving credit" as much as recognizing that he has a level of sanity that some in that cabinet seem to lack.

Any "credit" given to Bessent also wouldn't have to do with what he's saying now. It would have to do with him at the least getting in Trump's ear enough to limit the damage (for now anyway).

Someone might stand idly by (or even cheer on) a guy who sets his house on fire for no reason, but after it starts burning he still gets SOME credit if he (Bessent) helps and convinces the guy to put out the flames when realizing it's a horrible idea vs the guy whos trying to pour more gasoline on it (Navarro).

Shrug. If you want to grade him on a curve you can, but he gets nothing from me.

Fair enough. It's not like I think he's a hero. He's just sane enough that he helped avoid making it way worse than it could've been (again, so far).

Not piling on here, but it's already worse, he's trying to shut the stable door after the horse has bolted. It's actually funny how he's asking for cooperation from other countries after the shit show of the last 10 weeks. That ship has sailed Mr bessant..

It's not good...but it can ALWAYS be worse. A hint of sanity will bring some modicum of stability.

Most are sane, they are just spineless cowards and cucks that would do anything for any sort of political power and thus they will eat shit and claim its the best thing ever because Trump said so.

It needs to get worse before it gets good, at some point Congress will realize that allowing Trump to do whatever he wants is a dumb ass idea, but tariffs needs to hurt people bad before that happens, because MAGA is a fucking cult and the cult won't wake up out of their trance until the house is on fire.

Fair. So maybe a better way to put it is that he actually stood up and said " this is a bad idea" loudly enough that Trump heeded him over Navarro (for now).

If we didn't have term limits, sure. I still think we can potentially avoid a huge recession and a lot of suffering. I'd rather go that route than be "purified through pain" or whatever.

A "huge" recession that can be quickly resolved by congress is better than a long drawn-out uncertainty caused by having a moron with initiative be given complete power.

But a huge recession won't quickly be solved. There's residual effects that snowball when you're talking about a really bad one. Let's see if he's regned in to a degree now that he's had it made clear that his actions can cause Republicans to revolt.

I found this interesting. Jeffery Sachs (economist / Columbia professor) explains simply how trump his highly misguided and the ramifications.
