The biggest political and economic blunder of probably the history of the country. Self inflicted wound that gained absolutely nothing. Trillions lost in the markets, massive costs to US companies, hatred from our allies, countries forming alliances against us….
For what? What was gained?? Fucking nothing!!!
All to the fault of the Republican regime. Own it you stupid cunts!
Its saving grace is that it was ended so swiftly. Its fallout could be felt for a long time.
Firstly, it starts with insulting and attacking your own allies, shitting on them, punching down on them, and then wondering why they look elsewhere for alliances. Maga chuds cheer for this because they listen to one source only and are oblivious to reality.
Secondly, it creates enormous volatility and uncertainty to everyone. If you wanted to trade with America, good fucking luck during this time. You could pay $50,000 for a shipment of goods only to discover a month or two later after its manufactured that it'll be $100,000 in tariffs to bring it in. That's enough to sink most small businesses instantly. The tariffs simply changed hourly and were announced on social media.
Thirdly, it's jeapordised Americas reputation as a safe haven. The US dollar is of immense value because of its resilience and its position as a 'safe harbour' against volatility. Trump has slashed that security. We've seen it in the bonds market and the mass sell offs.
The idea that manufacturing was coming back to the US in the way that Trump proposed was a pipe dream and people that thought it would (check what people were saying on this site) need to get their heads checked.
They are not smart people. People don't want to do that kind of manufacturing to begin with; working 10-12 hour days for $2 a day isn't particularly high on many Americans priorities. Then there's the fact that starting manufacturing would require whole supply chains to be reimagined, factories built and people trained, a process that could take 5-20 years for some industries. And guess what? There's no stability. Why would you invest millions or billions in building factories in America that are uncompetitive and wouldn't deliver for years and years to come. Trump might (and did) change his mind on a daily basis, and as soon as those tariffs relaxed your investments were
worthless. You'd be out of your mind to make that investment.
