Economy Trump's April 2nd Tariffs

This doesn't explain why you claim it works for everyone but the USA. Literally every country benefits from tariffs.
So what do you mean? They're punishing their own people according to you. Why would they do this? If they're not as rich as us, they're double fucking their people. How could this be?
Tariffs do two things. They make imports less competitive and they create revenue for the government if people insist on buying it anyway.

I don't think you and others really understand it as well as you tell each other you do. You all talk in circles on this issue.

Not sure what happened with the format there haha, not to worry though.

No, let me be more specific, tariffs are generically a lump hammer tool, they're not very good. But when you need to raise a heavy shield, you use a tariff. The UK should have used tariffs on Chinese steel, but for whatever reason failed to do so, and now we're having to pay through the nose (again) to protect our industry.

Tariffs aren't a good thing, they make everything cost more, they're generically bad for business, but in this case having a steel industry is the most important aspect - more than price.

"Creating revenue" shouldn't be the sole aim of a tariff, but it's no surprise Trump wields it as a form of taxation.

So as not to "talk in circles", what do you find problematic/questionable here?

He has been saying this since day 1 before he ever was political. You got to respect that.

However, I am unbiased enough to know that this can also backfire, as easily as it could work. This plan is not a guarantee.

I can't view the video, but if it's about Trump promising tariffs (this is an assumption, so sorry if wrong) then Kamala was saying the same thing.

The 2024 US Election was basically "tariff or no tariff".

The country chose tariff.

It was the interview from Oprah in the 80’s. Pretty much saying that.

I can't say. No idea. I just posted a story. You guys got upset. I feel my obligation is over.

I mean, I guess ideally it'd go to lowering taxes, which is what Trump has suggested. What will happen with it? I don't know.

You know what would be easier and not ruin the economy, and cost regular people money in their 401ks?

Raising taxes on the billionaires and lowering taxes for the 99.9% of everyone else.

Raise taxes on Americans in order to lower taxes on Americans? Brilliant.

We're talking about government revenue here. I'm really not sure what it is confusing you all. All I mentioned is the money that tariffs are producing FOR THE GOVERNMENT. This is literally what tariffs are for. This is what they do. Produce money for the government. If people want to buy foreign over domestic, then they'll have to pay the premium. That money goes to the government. This is what every country does.

Make it make sense that you think the USA is the only country on the planet who shouldn't do this.

He was totally right, only thing is China has supplanted Japan as our supplier of garbage. We've lost everything since he did that interview. He was right.

He's talking about lowering taxes after instituting a massive flat (regressive) consumption tax with tariffs.

Whoop-de-doo

They produce money by charging duties to importers, who then pass the cost onto consumers.

You're making it sound like tariffs generate revenue out of thin air.

This US is literally the only country on the planet that instituted a tariff scheme based on trade deficits because the fucking idiot president doesn't understand that unequal trade between countries is not inherently bad.

"buy foreign over domestic"

Did the administration do any research to see how many things have a domestic equivalent over an imported good to see how much of a cost of living tax this would be for Americans?

Probably not. They just decided to tariff everything like our competition does.

Revenue from customs duties = taxes paid by consumers

You are confirming you are in favour of taxes paid by consumers
I've confirmed nothing. You're creating a narrative so you can be upset at someone/something.

I've simply pointed out what the tariffs do, which a lot of you have been wrong about all along, and some of you are upset for some reason. We're creating government revenue. I've offered 0 opinion on the impact or effect on consumers.

In all honesty, I've met no one impacted by tariffs, good or bad.

Well, if you don't impose more taxes on poor people, how can you afford tax cuts for rich people?

<Y2JSmirk>
Well, a few posts ago, someone was telling me that other countries impose tariffs on us because they are poorer than us.

You guys should all get together and make sure your propaganda matches. You're all over the map on this.

lol you got me, I give up. I surrender to your stubborn effort to understand nothing about this topic.

You keep on saying revenue as if it's in a vacuum

Can you share who you think is the ultimate payer of this government revenue

I'm done repeating the same thing for you guys over and over. Say something new or move on.
