He has a book out, Hillbilly Elegy. It was a major best seller around 2016. About his life up to that point. I never read it.

I think it’s fair.
I mean, George HW Bush ran against Reagan in the primaries of 1980 and then went on to be Reagan’s VP. In the primaries, Bush famously criticized Reaganomics as “voodoo economics.” It was a big sound bite at the time.

But that’s a far cry from saying “Id never vote for Reagan, he’s a reprehensible idiot and I’m worried he might be Hitler,” you know?

I don't know much about the guy but i was thinking a more strategic choice would have been a woman, since trump is notoriously bad with getting votes from women.

Trump did fine with women. He won married women by 14 points and won white women by 12, and spinsters, single moms and black women aren't really up for grabs, so picking a woman for identity purposes wouldn't really do anything anyway. Tulsi Gabbard would have been a fine anti-war pick too, but not to pick up any woman identity vote.

JD Vance is a solid pick. He's young and was a never Trumper for the 2016 primary when he was like 2 or 3 years out of law school and had a lot of liberal friends in tech and venture capital, and getting his Hillbilly Elegy book published and made into a movie, and then said he was pleasantly surprised that Trump was a great president and ran for senate himself a few years later, and the libs who liked him turned to attacking him.

His debate with Kamala Harris is going to be a pretty funny mismatch.
