It's...interesting.

I think we all learned with Kamala, that history is indeed history with these picks.

He's going to inevitably be hated by the MAGA crowd. Too young to throw his future away like that. So good luck to that dude.

I watched that Hillbilly Effegy movie on Netflix (wife read the book way back so put it on a few years ago and watched with her). Even granting typical poetic license and potentially some solid exaggerating...dude definitely came from nothing to make his own way. The opposite of Trump when it comes to silver spoon nepotism.

I am not a Republican and voted yes because I believe this ticket is now even more beatable. Guy has horrible record on women’s rights and that will turn off many moderates and lefties. He also called Trump hitler before so you may have some infighting
Trump is a weird guy... so many better known candidates than a junior Senator out of Ohio.

There might actually be a very tactical reason for this pick. Look at how MSNBC is reporting it when it was just announced, they are focusing on how Vance was anti-trump in 2016. I am sure he will now be on MSNBC and CNN to defend address those previous statements, so they can try and embarrass him and Trump, say he bent the knee, etc. Then Vance, who has discussed this many times and is very well spoken will be able to then school them.

The other side of the coin is that he is just another wishy washy politician that flips their opinions/beliefs to whatever suits them and their cause. It's one of the things I hate the most about politicians. I respect the ones more than have terrible opinions and beliefs but stick to them versus those that flip when its convenient, similar to Ted Cruz and his flip on Trump.

I think Youngkin would have been a stronger pick, maybe they see Vance having a greater impact in the blue wall States Biden needs to win. Probably doesn't matter anyways since VP selection makes little difference historically (well maybe for Biden since he's essentially an animated corpse at this point).

Don't know much about Vance, except he's now in the crosshairs of the deranged left who will be looking to label him a racist/sexist/homophobe/transphobe, etc. any chance they get.

MILWAUKEE, July 15 (Reuters) - Eight years ago, in the lead-up to the 2016 presidential election, J.D. Vance was a bitter critic of Donald Trump.

Publicly, he called the Republican presidential candidate an "idiot" and said he was "reprehensible." Privately, he compared him to Adolf Hitler...

When his Hitler comment was first reported, in 2022, a spokesperson did not dispute it, but said it no longer represented Vance's views.

He said Trump was a racist jackass and compared him to Hitler. He is a leftist undercover. Pack a lunch, brother. The leftists have taken over MAGA.
