Elections Trump picks JD Vance for VP

Do you like this Trump pick for VP?

Chose yes, but I don't really love the pick, would have preferred Vivek or Tulsi.

Not my first choice, but better than Rubio, Tim Scott, or Haley.

I also liked Vivek and Tulsi as potential picks, more so than even Vance, mainly cause he should stay in the senate. But saw a decent thread on why both those wouldn't have been good picks. Trump needs to hit the ground running, a key thing Vivek is missing, is a DC oriented staff under him, to quickly get the ball rolling.

Problem with Tulsi is she was a democrat and only turned independent after leaving the Senate and DC. All her former staff are thus democrats. So would also need a restaffing.

He is MUCH better than Rubio, Scott, Haley, Youngkin, Carson (simply cause too old).

Vance is great to carry the torch in 2028 also, assuming Trump wins. He speaks much better than Desantis.

Assuming Trump wins in November, Vivek will certainly have a good position in the admin. Setting up the Vance/Vivek tickey for 2028.

The man has no backbone he went from a "Never Trumper" to jumping on his back Humper. He knew the only way to advance his political career was to turnabout face and ride the Trump train, kudos to him because it worked. I would suggest to him that he gauge his distance when standing next to Trump at one of his Hee Haw Good Ole Boys rallies.

He’s not winning in that department haha. I just wanna see more younger level heading towards the center politicians on both sides.

There might actually be a very tactical reason for this pick. Look at how MSNBC is reporting it when it was just announced, they are focusing on how Vance was anti-trump in 2016. I am sure he will now be on MSNBC and CNN to defend address those previous statements, so they can try and embarrass him and Trump, say he bent the knee, etc. Then Vance, who has discussed this many times and is very well spoken will be able to then school them.

Actually that’s a great observation.

This is a good choice, though he was doing good in the senate. I wanted house rep Byron Donalds, but I found out today that if Trump were to pick another Floridian cannot run with him, well they can, but if they won FL, they would not get the electoral college votes

Seems like it has never legally been challenged, but seems pretty clear. Weird there was even talk of Rubio, and to a much lesser extent, Donalds, even being discussed lol

At the very start:

Twelfth Amendment

Twelfth Amendment Explained

The Electors shall meet in their respective states and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves;

But if an election turns out to be particularly close, the rule could potentially come into play. It almost did in the notoriously contentious election of 2000. When Texas Gov. George W. Bush chose Dick Cheney as his running mate on the Republican ticket, Cheney had been living and voting and paying taxes for five years in Texas. Shortly before the election, however, Cheney obtained a Wyoming driver’s license and put his Dallas home on the market. (He had a vacation home in Wyoming, which is the state he had formerly represented in the U.S. Congress.)

Good thing for him he did: The Bush-Cheney ticket ended up winning with 271 electoral votes—just a slim five-vote margin—over Al Gore and Joe Lieberman, a total they certainly wouldn’t have hit without Texas’ 32 votes.

Vance will be the president of the Senate. Trump needs someone to keep the Senate Republicans in line with his agenda.

To be fair anyone will destroy her in a debate
She came out on top with Pence but the constant weird smiling was off putting. And as much as I came round to him a weeny bit he was pretty insipid.
