International Trump: 25% tariffs on Mexican and Canadian imports will start Tuesday, with ‘no room’ for delay

I fucking called it.

With the Liberal leadership race to conclude shortly, and prorogation ending March 24, the opposition parties could force an election call immediately, so before the date Trump has declared the tariffs will be reinstated--wadda ya know? Regardless, he will try to intimidate the new prime minister but unless Poilievre is a bigger self-centered pussy than even I give him credit for, the strategy will fail. We've got our back up now and it's not going back down until we have guarantees this tarriff fuckery is a thing of the past, never to return. The big orange turd thinks he's negotiating by trolling. We're not going to stop retaliating and shifting our international trade to other nations and rehoming much of our current spending on US goods, services, and other expenditures in the US.

"Oops, we should not have done that, it was the wrong thing to do," is not going to make this all better.

*Little PP, Pierre Poilievre

The little orange cuck lmao. Apparently Doug Ford and Trudeau will still implement the tarrifs regardless. Hope they don't budge and actually make Trump pay for his retardation

Countries under the threat of tariffs should find other markets for some of their goods, since Trump can’t be relied on to honor deals. Even if tariffs don’t materialize, we need more reliable markets to encourage investments. This on and off crap hurts eveyone.

I think this is almost certainly going to be happening right now.

There's potentially four years of this insanity, serious businesses aren't going to just buckle up for the ride, they're going to take precautions.

Not just four years,

America has lost the confidence and trust of the world for a generation..

What country in their right mind would trust America in another four years even if it were a Democratic president.

At this point the world is seeing that this back and forth will go on with whatever party comes into power…

That’s just bad business

Opiates werent a problem when it was intelligence importing the heroin. Weird the public outcry and feigning interest in addicts
Yeah, weird public outcry over something thats killed a 1/4 million americans since 2018. How odd.

It's really sad to see. If we had only had the one Trump term it could be written off as an anomaly and we could go back to business as usual but this 2nd term will loom large in the minds of leaders across the world.

Just now on the local news the ferry service, which was looking back at a disastrous 2024 season and dreading the coming one, has now had to modify its schedule back to its normal service level due to the sudden increase in demand from people deciding not to travel to the US.

This stench will follow for a good decade or two, and it is hard to blame the rest of the world.

Other countries are much older and have been through this shit before, they fucked around and found out.. that is why they are starting to push back, they know the playbook and trump showed his cards.

Other countries know the tariffs have no real bite, it is just for negotiations.. they don’t want to play that game, so they will suck it up and eat the tariffs for a few days because their citizens have the moral high ground..

They know the tariffs will quickly collapse because the American people will not stand for the higher prices, on either side.

Were you as concerned during covid or dismissed it as just the Kung flu?
I was actually. I got pretty sick of the whole thing a few months in, but at first yes. Once we had vaccines and treatments to help those who chose to do so, I thought enough was enough. But yeah, for sure. If you went back and looked at my posts here, I was pretty scared of the unknown virus. I'm a little embarrassed about it now.

Well, had the lefts response to Trump not been to go completely insane, things may have been different.

The hyperbole and drama is really out of control with you guys.

My prediction-
The rest of the world will still be begging us for money and military defense.

Ukraine is begging us to come back to the table as is most of the EU.

A few tariffs were literally the beginning of the end of the world for Canadians.

The world can't get by without us and thats a fact.

Indeed, I think I saw where someone else said the same thing... oh wait... :P

We're already doing that and we're not going back. A week or three ago, the MAGA-naughts here were claiming Canada's economic impact on the US was so small as to be negligible. I don't see any of them claiming that now ;)

On the plus side, stock markets in Europe are on the up, and this should be fair warning to those considering far right votes across the continent.

Yes, these parties might feed them the self-affirming soundbites they want to hear, but can they actually run your country for you?

Being tough on minorities and fighting societal issues is just one small part of what it takes to be an effective leader. They need to wake up to that reality. This should help them. Populism makes for poor leadership, and tough guys struggle on the international stage.

lol you have no idea what you're talking about and have demonstrated that repeatedly.

I guess its on brand for you to favor the gangster approach of "I'm going to make them an offer they can't refuse" but personally not a fan.
