Tom Aspinall vs Cyril Gane for HW Title ONLY Fight To Make

As a hardcore, Almeida is a very interesting fight. Unfortunately, Almeida isn't much of a draw to the non-hardcores especially after his performance with Derrick Lewis. It was sort of an anomalous performance for him, since he usually finishes everybody else, but that fight sticks out in the memories with people because of Black Beast being such a fan favorite.

Fair. I guess the thing is that we know Aspinall won't hold up the division so if it's Gane first, we'll probably see Almeida up next not too long after. Or could see Volkov/Almeida in a #1 contender fight on the same card as Aspinall/Gane?

Almeida's wins since getting slept by Blaydes is Romanov and Spivac. Spivac was a good win but he just lost to Waldo. No way do I see him getting a title shot without a win over a top 5'er. Volkov or Game are the most likely choices for Toms official first defence as champ. Then after one of those fights or both Francis comes back to fight Tom for IFW next year.

Gane is still injured and Volkov is in the doghouse after the worst high profile HW performance since Ngannou vs. Lewis. Who lands just one or two meaningful strikes a round for two-and-a-half rounds against a fighter with a shattered foot who is physically incapable of doing anything more than holding onto Volkov's arm for dear life?

Gane should never be allowed back in a title fight after the literal egg he laid against Jones.

I honestly can't recall another time an opponent just looked star struck to the point of being almost paralyzed.

No the heavyweight division used to be good ….. it’s absolute garbage now

Crazy thing is in this same era if you made a top ten non ufc HW it would be pretty solid.

Volkov was still on a 4 fight win streak, it would have been 5 if he didn't get robbed and he'd be the #1 contender fight now. He most certainly deserves that TS over Gane. I like Gane but he shouldn't be near another TS until he beats Blaydes or Pav or Almeida.

Aspinall's striking is on par with Alex Hernandez technically, it just works because he's faster than most other HWs and has big KO power.

Unfortunately, it is the fight we will get and I don't think very many fans care about that match up.

UFC will probably do everything in its power to have Alex move up. That is fight that would sell big for the UFC.

agreed, the fight to make. it's kinda weird the way aspinall has already beaten a majority of the contenders before even taking the belt. they're going to have to do a whole series of rematches, either that or actually find some talent from elsewhere.

100% it's the fight to make. Aspinall won't have his normal speed advantage and Gane is 10 times better technically, so it's basically like Gane vs Ngannou all over again where all Gane's opponent has over him is power. I have a feeling the panic wrestling Francis employed won't be such a viable path anymore, Gane has trained up in this area with elite SHW partners.

Aspinall and Gane have both been finished once: Gane by the all time GOAT of MMA and Aspinall....by someone else.

MMA fan conveniently forgetting MMA has stylistic differences, and that's what people were annoyed with.

But no, your attempted gotcha still fails because just beating Gane proves nothing special for Tom, other than it's another top ranked guy. No one thinks Gane should even be the number 1 contender, but he is because of a bad decision
