Yes, it is. In the fantasy world. In the real world, Jones has got the actual belt, and Tom has got the interim title, which is the lesser of the two.

Now, this doesn't mean that I don't think Jones should be making a deal to fight Tom asap. Or should retire. He should. I wouldn't complain about Jones being stripped either.

But facts don't change just cuz you would like things to be different. You can make up shit, it doesn't make reality go away.

I'm a Jon Jones fan, & there's no way to defend him on this one. Dude doesn't have the real belt because he has made the HW division a dead division. Completely stagnant due to his inactiveness just because he thinks his past accomplishments trumps everyone else's careers & the business of the UFC.

A true champion lines up whoever is next & knocks them down. It's called defending the belt. Jon has cherry picked & has put an entire division on hold due to his entitlement. Hence the reasoning of an interim belt still being a thing in that division to begin with. When Jon came back from injury he should've fought the interim champ just like the real champion always does once he or she gets back. Jon's belt isn't the real champion belt because he doesn't fight like a champion anymore. Tom is being more of a champion with his belt than Jon is with his by trying to get fights going & trying to be active. But Jon is the problem. If there was no Jon Jones in the HW division, the division would be moving along & the championship belt would be relevant. As far as I'm concerned, the HW belt is vacant due to the inactivity in the division.

The problem with the HW division is the place is a wasteland. Tom has nobody to fight but Jones and he knows it.. The UFC knows it.. So the waiting game continues.. It is NOT like Tom has peak Stipe, DC, Werdum, JDS, Cain or Brock to fight.. Tom picked a lousy time to make his legacy at HW..

There are fans who actually get more enjoyment out of fights NOT happening than they do if they were.

That was a big thing when Conor refused to defend his belts. People actually had the rhetoric that no one deserved to fight for them and Conor can just "do whatever he wants"

Well, fans actually want fighters to fight if they want to. If a fighters who has had 30 fights, 15 of them being word championship fights, is nearing 40 (which to someone who has fought so much, is already an old age) says he is not interested in fighting anymore, fans wouldn't want the fighter to be forced to fight. Fans would understand that there are times the fighter needs to stop fighting. Whether the organizations decides to officially let that clear or not, is not the fighters' choice and fault.

Btw it's also likely a thing about the organization change of platforms, as has been told many times. They want the fight done when they can profit from it the most... That's not on JJ to choose when to fight, it's on the UFC to set a date. If they aren't saying anything is because they are waiting on a platform deal to make it official. Tom would know this. I think it's his way, actually, of keeping the hype up.

It's interesting though because that's not the only big fight. Do we know when Chimaev and DDP will fight? Or when Pereira vs Ankalaev rematch will happen? No fighter is pushing much for it because the organization is not making it happen. So what is the point of saying he's ducking I want the fight !!! when they know the opponent can't fight unless the organization sets on a specific date for profit? The difference tho is that the other fighters are mostly quiet, Tom tho is talking about it a lot... And the fans too. It's like everyone thinks it's only this big fight that's in the limbo, when it's not.
