"Miss with the logic and honesty"Yea Tom played himself waiting for Jon imo. Miss me with the "But but the UFC told him it was happening" BS. No one on sherdog believed it was happening. Not sure how him, his team, and his overly vocal Daddy couldn't put two and two together.
When it comes to Conor/Chandler, we're quick to blame Chandler (and rightfully so), but when it comes to Tom, it's alllllll Jon's fault for stringing him along. Gtfo. Dude could have gotten one or two of the Jailton, Volk, Cortex type guys out of the way while waiting for Jon to make up his mind.
We just laugh at your stupidity and dishonestyWell hey if he got paid for not fighting, then that's dandy. He got paid 200K as a backup to Jones/Stipe, but nothing other than that has been confirmed. It would be another 6 months before Jon was stripped.
To your question:
-UFC wanted the Jon fight. He's the upside in terms marketability and name value. Tom was very transparently open to this fight and was content to wait for it. The answer to your question is obvious. I think the question you need to ask is; Why would matchmakers deviate from the plan and offer him something else?
My question is; should Tom have waited? He could have called someone else out or pushed for another match, but instead, he showed up to events with a toy duck and gave Jon more exposure and attention by talking about him on social media and in interviews. Tom kept Jon in the conversation by constantly talking about him.
I can't say "when" would have been an appropriate time for Tom to abandon hope of the Jon fight, but I think we all knew Jon was pricing himself out when he said he wanted "fuck you" money. It still blows my mind that Tom and his team couldn't interpret that for what it was.
Stop panic wrestling for Jon's honourYes I have heard Dana say this, and I do believe it to be true since no one has tried argue otherwise. But that could be manipulated any number of ways. Is that 3 fights every fiscal year? Calendar year? Or is it based off the date from which his contract was signed? Does the standby pay count as one fight in this arrangement? If so, one could easily see how the 3 fight obligation was met by the UFC. At worst, they may have had to compensate him for one fight while the Jon situation was being sorted out.
This is all you guys have left to hang on to after Tom made Jon retire in fear. Its sad pathetic stuff. Most “fans” of Aspinall are just bunch leeches, they latch unto the next avatar for their Jones hate.
Imagine being so utterly obsessed with one retired fighter that you just constantly trash and shit on the sport and everyone else competingEver think some fans just wanna see exciting fighters that KO opponents?
Jones is done fighting...or maybe not...but whatever. Either way he stopped mattering to plenty of us when he decided he didn't want to unify. So whatever happens with the division going forward, it has nothing to do with Jones. I'm interested to see Almeida/Aspinall actually (I think both win their next fights and that's the next HW title fight).
If you wanna believe no fans actually care about the active, relevant fighters that's fine but you're wrong.
He's getting captain crunchedOur Cereal will be victorious.
What do you mean by you guys. You’re still putting me in the same category as the rest of the weirdos that are glued to Jones, Im not one of them, ive never made outlandish ridiculous posts when it comes to Jones, Im simply stating something obvious, something you can see frequent on this forum and easily observed in certain posters when it pertains to opponents or would be opponents of Jones, ie Aspinall, Ngannou & Gane. This is all you guys have left to hang on to after Tom made Jon retire in fear. You are parroting their same ridiculous viewpoint that people cant like a KO artist HW champ with the shortest fight time who only once had to leave the first round, stope everyone in 2 minutes or less and has an absurd highlight real and only like him because he made Jon retire in terrorWhat do you mean by you guys. Oh sure, he was paid but it most likely wasn't a $50,000 dollar payday. I can't help but feel Tom was just wishing to fight Jon Jones and unify the belts, despite the outcome working in his favor. Why was it not the right choice?
Tom got paid not to fight
Got the undisputed HW title
Jones retired in fear and disgrace
The UFC wouldn't offer Tom anyone else
So the only alternative would be to breach his UFC contract, fight in some other promotion and get sued to hell
Whilst Tom didnt really have a choice as the UFC wouldn't match him with anyone else, it couldn't really have worked out any better for him. The only way it could be better is if he fought and beat Jon, but Jon preferred to retire in terror. No choice for Tom there
With what was in his control, it was the perfect outcome for Tom
He absolutely wanted to fight JonOh sure, he was paid but it most likely wasn't a $50,000 dollar payday. I can't help but feel Tom was just wishing to fight Jon Jones and unify the belts, despite the outcome working in his favor.
Tom Aspinall says no amount of money can make him go shoot for a movie while he is still actively fighting.![]()
Aspinall (15-3) will look to defend his heavyweight title against Ciryl Gane (13-2) in the UFC 321 main event on Oct. 25 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Aspinall had wanted to defend his interim title against Gane at UFC 304 in London last year. However, Aspinall accused “Bon Gamin” of ducking him to film the French Netflix movie, “KO.” Aspinall claims that, unlike Gane, even $50 million wouldn’t suffice for him to abandon his craft and shoot a movie.
“I wouldn’t do a Netflix documentary for $50 million while I’m still active and fighting,” Aspinall told RMC Sport Combat. “No chance. You couldn’t pay me enough money to do it. 100% committed to my craft, a 100%.”
Aspinall defended his interim title against Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304 in July 2024 and hasn’t fought since. “Honey Badger” kept rallying for a title unifier against former champ Jon Jones, who eventually vacated the belt earlier this year.
