I can see this won’t be a popular opinion but

I thought Thor empowering the young Agardians and them demolishing the shadow monsters wasn’t bad at all

haha.

I rocked out the best part of November Rain and the Jane tie in, so it's an up for me sherbro.

I called it way back when the first trailer dropped. My exact word's at the time,

"Christian Bale's Gorr looks like he's in a different movie"

You have a woman dying of cancer and a serial killer of Gods. Yeah, there should be a few jokes here and there to break up the tension, but for the main part this should have been a serious movie. It doesn't have to be unrelentingly grim, but the central concepts should have been treated with the respect they deserve.

Waititi needed someone to reign him in .

It was ok. I had tempered expectations and even then I kind of expected more. Russell Crowe was hilarious to me

I enjoyed this movie a lot.

I don’t get the hate a lot of posters have for it. Not all Marvel movies can be as epic as End Game.

Yeah I think a lot of people have way too high expectations. Like from now on every single marvel movie is going to be amazing.

For some people there will be hit and miss movies. Iron man 3, gotg 2, the first two thors, ant man and the wasp, age of ultron. A lot of movies aren’t amazing. I wouldn’t call them terrible though. (Except the 2nd Thor lol)

Exactly, all of the movies you listed are still pretty decent movies IMO.

A lot of people complained that Thor: Love and Thunder did not have enough fight scenes and we didn’t see Gorr killing a bunch of gods, but IMO, we didn’t have to.

I sometimes think there are too many fight scenes in recent movies to the point that it becomes boring and repetitive. One of my all time favorite Marvel scenes is the scene when they are all together chilling out at that lounge:

This scene is great and even sets up a reveal later on in end game.

True, but at the same time not all Marvel movies need to be as silly as Ragnarok or GOTG 2.

I saw this last weekend with my wife and she’s a huge Thor fan (probably because she thinks Chris Hemsworth is hot) but even she started to hit her limit with the excessive dumb humour.

All of the trailers pretty much suggested it would have a lot of comedy scenes. Thor: Ragnarok had a lot of comedy, too.

I guess it’s about managing your expectations. If you saw the trailers and Ragnarok and went into this movie expecting a dark, gritty masterpiece, then I don’t know what to tell you.

The problem isn't the light hearted comedy, i loved ragnarok and GOTG for doing just that. But if you're gonna do it, then you should do it right.

The tonal shift from comedy to the god butcher to jane's cancer felt completely out of place. They tried to do too many things with this movie and ended up doing nothing too well. Weak comedy, the 5% of it that was dark and gritty had no weight to it, and the rock star vibe just felt hamfisted whenever it was thrown in there. It was all over the place. Ragnarok and GOTG felt like the telling of a real, coherent story in a funny way.

Some parts were funny though, russel crowe and the goats always made me laugh. Hope to see more of crowe in the future.

None of these new marvel movies have been worth ranking past 6.5 tbh. Id give Thor a 5.5.

These days, Disney prioritizes merch so I dont excpect the films to blow me away or anything.

Same here. I enjoyed this movie a lot actually.

It's a comic book movie. Not sure what people expected. A dark gritty movie like Batman??? That wouldn't make any sense at all.

In terms of box office, Love & Thunder basically the same as Ragnarok, taking into account no China or Russia release this time.

Of course, if L&T had been a higher quality movie, it would have / should have done better.

I agree that Ragnarok was better. TBH, it’s probably my all time favorite and most rewatched Marvel movie.

IMO, Love and Thunder was a good quality addition. It made me laugh throughout and I enjoyed the ride!

I think this movie lacked Loki. I was half expecting him to appear with a funny comment like “You didn’t think I really died, did you?” Or something like this! The chemistry between Loki and Thor made Ragnarok epic, IMO.

Also, Jeff Goldblum, Kate Blanchett, Tessa Thompson, Dr Strange, Hulk, they just knocked it out of the park!

Didn't recognize Crowe as Zeus because he was so flabby. Did recognize the Ted Lasso past prime soccer star as Hercules, but didn't think he's buff enough for that character.

They just had to make Korg gay too.

Didn't seem as good as Ragnarok.

Late to the party. This movie was garbage. Only good part is Christian Bale and even that didn't save this movie. MCU is done.

godawful marvel slop, as expected.
all this desperation to make every second somehow funny ends up making it insufferable.

Finally got around to watching this movie and I thought it completely fell apart at the end. It wasn't exactly good leading up to the ending, but there were so many jumps in logic at the the end that I was just shaking my head in disbelief at what was happening on screen.

1. Thor and Jane just being able to randomly teleport to Gorr's location without the use of the Stormbreaker and the Bifrost. What in the hell? Did Thor use the Zeus bolt to do that? Was it even hinted that the Zeus bolt could be used in such a manner? And how the hell did Jane get there with no Stormbreaker or Zeus bolt? How did she know where they were? You'd think this would have been a good time to make use of the ideas in the book she wrote that's shown in the movie earlier, but it's never even referenced again after that one scene early in the movie.

2. Valkyrie just 'noping' out of the final battle. She gets injured during the second to last skirmish, seems completely ok, and just tells Thor she a'int coming to the final battle. Lmao, wow what a great leader of New Asgaard. Imagine if Captain America or Iron Man just up and said 'nope not doing it, too risky' when the final battle with Thanos was about to start. If Gorr's plan succeeds, literally everything she knows will vanish, and she couldn't even be bothered to get up off her bench and escort Thor to the final battle. Jane has stage 4 cancer and still showed up, Valkyrie has a scratch and gave up. What a great hero.

3. Thor imbuing the children with Thor powers felt like something out of Disney Kids TV show. Embarrassing and also a horrible way to reduce Gorr to nothing but a child kidnapper. And why has Thor never used this ability before? This feels like those old episodes of Super Friends where the writers just made up powers for the superheroes to use as needed.

4. The whole concept of there being some secret realm where a user can be granted one wish just felt like such a contrivance, especially given the number of times the heroes could have used something like that in previous movies.

I did like the intro of the movie with Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy, and most of Bale's scenes were good too, but other than that this movie was kind of a mess. It wasn't as bad as Black Widow or The Eternals, but it's a big step down from Shang-Chi and No Way Home.

Phase 4 has just felt like a wild, meandering, directionless mess up to this point and I don't see any of the upcoming TV shows or movies changing that. Marvel really needs to get their shit together and refocus on what made these movies a success in the first place if they want fans to jump back on board. Right now Phase 4 is a disaster.

Fell apart at the end sounds about right. It's like hey guys, I'm tired, let's wrap this up. Slap together any shit ending. Let's go. The comic version was better.

I assumed there'd be more GotG, but it was just the opening bit showing Thor is one man wrecking crew.

They made Gorr too overpowered. Didn't know Thor could do magic shit like give the kiddies temporary Thor powers or do super duper fast travel without Stormbreaker, which I didn't know could make rainbow bridges on demand.

That's fine when the character or movie isn't involving someone as powerful as Thor, and a villain that is literally called the God Butcherer.

The issue with Thor was the tone was all over the place and it didnt' match with the story they were telling. Most of the scenes with Gorr felt like they should have been in another movie. Jane has cancer, and the seriousness of that wasn't really ever properly handled. You have a movie about gods and immortality, and you have a human that's dying, and another mortal (Gorr) that has suffered from a god...if you're going to put all of this deep stuff in a movie, why then make the movie a complete joke with the goats, fruity Zeus, and Power Ranger mini Thor kids?

Ragnarok wasn't a super serious movie despite all that was happening, but it was a lot more balanced.
