Economy The [Wall / Government Shutdown] Megathread

Would you approve of Trump using emergency powers to build his wall?

The Chinese built a wall once. They will forever be shamed for their racist and bigoted behavior towards the Mongolian people. Don't make the same mistake, America!

He doesn't have to be any good. His opponent just has to be worse.

Need evidence?

2016

He isn't going to have Comey officiating this time to cripple his opponent and help him lead a Tom Brady-like 4th quarter comeback.<LynchWink>

^ Yeah. Keep telling yourself that when he somehow gets re-elected. Then you'll start accusing the POTUS of more Russian Collusion or some other bullshit excuse for losing to him again.

11+ months to go and counting....

Are you saying that Comey didn't provide Trump a massive boost, or are you just being moronically argumentative?

As for the Russians in 2016, even Rudy has abandoned defending the Trump campaign about collusion and is falling back to defend the citadel of Trump himself, now that we know that Manafort, the head of Trump’s campaign, was offering secret polling data, for a US election, to a Kremlin linked Ukrainian spy with the point of facilitating the Kremlin's intervention into the US presidential election, to benefit Donal J. Trump, in exchange for helping Russian interests vis-a-vis Ukraine. And, now that we know that Manafort, along with Trump Jr. and Kushner, met with Natalia V. Veselnitskaya, who has now clearly been exposed as an agent of the Kremlin (and therefore was working for the Kremlin at the time of the meeting) and discussed a quid pro quo deal to help Trump win the election in exchange for the Trumps undoing the Magnitsky act. And we have had Trump Jr. lying his ass off about all of it to the media (and probably to congress as well, along with maybe Kushner), we have Trump Sr. crafting lies for Trump Jr. to try to cover up those lies, and we have Trump Sr. still licking Putin's boots every chance he gets, from him taking Putin's side over US intel (including Pompeo) in Helsinki to Trump lifting the sanctions on Deripaska as fast as he possibly could.

And Corsi and Stone still haven't even flipped yet to fill in the gaps regarding the Wikileaks pathway.

hi Foots!

not really a pussy ass - just not much of a tactician.

in january 2018, he had his chance and he should have taken it. 25 billion of wall money for DACA protections.

that was his moment and he blew it.

i'll give him credit for having the stones to declare that he was going to shut the government down, though, and then he did it. it was a little like driving a car off a cliff.

that takes gumption.

Slamming a car into a telephone poll doesn't take gumption. It just takes you being retarded.

Keep on hoping for an impeachment and a removal that won't happen.

11+ months to go and counting 'till 2020....

hi there 7437,

i'm going with the "glass is 1/4 full" approach, as an act of empathy.

hi glenwo2,

absent some blockbuster finding from the current investigation, i don't think most folks think Mr. Trump is going to get impeached.

is it possible that the investigation will end up hitting Mr. Trump's son Eric or his son-in-law, Mr. Kushner?

maybe.

the thing is, all it took was a Mr. Comey weighing in at the 11th hour on Mrs. Clinton's emails to help sway the election. depending on what Mr. Mueller's investigation yields, it might end up being the straw that breaks the POTUS' electoral back.

i'm not holding my breath. Mr. Trump's support in the GOP has been pretty steadfast, but we shall see.

- IGIT

Yes. Which is more than anyone can say for Past Presidents who end up being just another Cog in the Political Machine.

hi glenwo2,

in a way, i really do admire Mr. Trump for sticking to his guns and demanding his wall money. the reality that he forced the shutdown to drag on and on for his declared cause is pretty unusual.

let me ask you a question; is it your understanding that, in the end, Mexico will still end up paying for the wall, due to the increased revenue the US Government will collect due to the USMCA?

does it matter any longer to you who pays for it, as long as it gets done (and do you feel that most Americans feel this way about the wall)?

- IGIT

hi glenwo2,

i'll give you that, partially.

in the end, by triggering the shutdown, i agree that Mr. Trump steeled himself to the task (after being eviscerated by the Freedom Caucus and Ann Coulter).

with no obvious legislative path to victory and an implacable opponent in Mrs. Pelosi, President Trump just yolo'd ahead anyway.

that takes balls. there are probably a legion of Democrats who would have been very happy if President Obama had shutdown the government over the Merrick Garland nomination.

the thing is, Mr. Trump also revealed other things;

1) that neither he nor his proxy, Mr. Kushner, have any actual dealmaking aptitude.

2) that Mr. Trump is willing to commit to a no-win situation in order to please a very small minority in congress, the Freedom Caucus.

Damn, an entire career down the drains here folks.

Hate to break it to you, but that's where you're completely wrong. If a wall keeps ONE murdering MS13 member or fentanyl dealer out, or prevents a drunk illegal from being behind the wheel and hurting myself or a family member, the wall is worth it.

Hate to break it to you, but I wouldn't spend a billion dollars to save you or any one single person, let along up to twenty five billion.

It's funny how much you're willing to spend to save one person from an immigrant, but you same types wouldn't spend a dime to save thousands from poverty and death.

So are you saying being popular or a winner makes you right? Are you saying that people shouldn't continue to fight for what is right despite the odds of getting successful?

Interesting...

Well Donny's entire career has been of one bankruptcy after another. Bailed out and propped up time and again by Daddy until daddy said 'no more'. Then once all US banks said 'no more', he resorted to shady Russian and Mob money to prop up his real estate.

I guess if you wanna give Donny credit is that he will not allow any of the usual things that would deter a business man (ethics, legal risk) deter him.

We'll see how that goes for him.

How many citizens are victims of crimes at the hands of illegals every year? It isn't just ONE person that would benefit. As for your other deflection, we spend billions on welfare every year.

You and the other lefty idiots should figure out a different avenue to travel if you're going to attempt an argument.

Stephen Miller said he 'would be happy if not a single refugee' came to the US, according to ex-Trump aide

Miller is quoted in former administration aide Cliff Sims' memoir as saying he "would be happy if not a single refugee foot ever again touched America's

...
  • One of the few remaining staffers from Trump's 2016 campaign, Miller has been behind the administration's most controversial immigration policy and expressed anti-immigrant sentiments, which multiple reports, family, and friends, have pointed out is in contrast to his family's refugee background.

...
Sims also describes Miller as the "right-wing protege" of former White House strategist and far-right nationalist Steve Bannon who he says strikes the perfect balance between the "globalist/nationalist" divide in the administration.

Miller was previously identified as the driving force behind the Trump administration's "zero tolerance" policy that separated thousands of immigrant children from their families at the southern border.

Never thought that Trump would drop below 30% like a lot people were predicting at the beginning of his presidency given how polarized the US is now, but he just might get there.

Thats a novel way to look at those numbers

holy fuck you're out of touch and misinformed beyond belief. You don't understand differences in bankruptcy nor do you understand what his dad did for him. Also nice attempt with the Russian gimmicks. You're still on that train lul

Declared bankruptcy 6 times and daddy had to bail him out of trouble on many occasions, been sued 4,000+ times, constantly stiffed contractors and eventually US banks would no longer loan him money, what else is there to understand?
