The UFC really is a financial rip off !

You also need electricity, a place to watch it in and a television so add that I to your costs.

Fight pass: $96/yr

Avg of 13 PPVs a yr at $55 per = $715/yr

Fox Sports 1 available on cable deals around $60/month = $720/yr

This is not even including taxes.

That's an approximate total of $1,531 a year, $127/month.

This is utter bullshit. I love MMA, but the UFC is a big rip off. Given how many people watch illegal due to high costs, wouldn't the UFC be better off charging, say, $70/month, for everything - including Fight Night, PPVs, and the free FOX cards ?
You could make the same equations to watch baseball or NFL.

The NFL package can get up t $400 a if you get all the add ons.

But accounting your whole cable bill to just UFC is dumb.

You obviously need to pick and choose what ppvs u want to order. Either watch at a bar or watch through less than legal ways. I subscribe to fight pass in order to funnel a little money into the UFC. I like the fight library they offer. But I haven't purchased a ppv a in a long time. It's either a bar or "other means" I also support them by tuning into the fox channel programming. Trust me. You can watch and support UFC on the cheap.

well you are the dumb ass paying 720 a year just to watch fox sports 1

besides that $1500 isn't that much. I easily spend that in a weekend one or twice a year when I go to a live UFC event.

$127 a month is 3 hours of work.

It's not even worth $70 a month maybe $25 at the most and that's generous. That's why you have a ton of sites that broadcast UFC events in HD for free all over the internet.

I get about 300 channels for $60 that include Fox Sports 1. Who is paying $60 for just Fox Sports 1? By my calculations Fox Sports 1 costs about 20 cents.

60 a month for fox lol try like 4 bucks a month

Both of you are correct when you figure out how much each individual channel costs but please tell us all which cable company will only charge you if you just want 1 channel for 20 cents or $4? That's right zilch you have to buy the package for whatever the cost $60, $80, $100 or whatever the cost so in all actuality you pay $60, $80 or $100 to get that channel and not 20 cents or 4 dollars as you've stated.

it's their product and they sell it for whatever price they want

and it's the consumers decision to not buy it due to the price. And only a small% of those who watch illegally would buy it for this price. I

But regardless of any of that PPVs are bad for sports. PPVs were bad for boxing and they are bad for MMA as a sport they are only good for profit but beside the violence it's one of the big differences between boxing and MMA to sports like tennis, football, soccer and co.
In the days when guys like Ali fought on normal television boxing was at it's peak in term of popularity. PPVs are apparently good for revenue but they are bad for the sport atleast in it's current form

Weak attempt at being that really clever first response.

You are not coming across as well off with your OP that is for certain. The reason people stream isn't the high cost as you claim. It's because they can and there is no consequences for it. Please stop acting like stealing someone else's content is some noble act.

If a 100 bucks a month is to much for you, maybe you should find yourself another hobby.

this is a ridiculous statement. Why should anyone be only allowed to have 1 hobby as if other hobbies don't cost as well it so in it's sum it's more than 100 bucks you spent on hobbies. even if your hobby is just MMA what if you fot example train then it's another 100bucks each month down the shitter as well let alone if you also watch boxing on top of that.

Combat sports have also always appealed to poor people and not upper middle class with boxing maybe mroe than MMA but probably even with MMA and a ton of the talent comes from lower class or lower middle class families. Not only does this exclude many possibly MMA fans but it also excludes possible talent as most people start training after actually watching the sport they consider joining.

It is bad for the sport

yeah it's the consumer's decision, therefore the consumer isn't being ripped off financially is he?

but it's bad for the sport which was my argument and it limits the amount of new fans plus it's bad for the sport not only in terms of popularity but in terms of new talent (see my other post)

Gotta pay to play, baby!

Maybe if you ease up on buying video games, you too, can watch unlimited UFC fights like the rest of us!

Just stream

But as long as you're happy, fuck everyone else.

Its 2016...you havent figured out a way around it yet?

ok man your thread title says it's a financial rip off. That's what upset me and that's why I originally posted what I posted. You can just stream whatever event you wanna see for free or download later too. Even if you couldn't do any of this, that's their product so it's their price. Buy it or don't buy it, you're not forced to. I really don't know if PPV is bad, good or indifferent to the sport but I know it's a big slice of Zuffa's income.
