The UFC doesn't like Belal

I dont know about disliked. Disliked would be a good thing. Tito Ortiz might be the most disliked and he was quite famous for his time.

Belal might be the champion that no one care about. That's a lot worse. There have been a lot of champs people didnt care about, but I'm not sure to the extent of Belal.

Belal is the UFC's least popular champ? Fans, fighters and the UFC all don't seem to like him a whole lot.

Edit: The quote below is by DDP, not Helwani just to clarify for some.

Ouch, words hurt.

It has been 10 days since Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis shut out former 185 lb champion Sean Strickland at UFC 312 in Sydney, Australia (watch highlights). However, he is still delivering violence (this time virtually).

Recently, UFC Welterweight champion Belal Muhammad has made his intentions clear, he’s planning on going up to Middleweight if Lightweight kingpin Islam Makhachev chooses to try for greatness and grab a second belt, and he likes his chances because Du Plessis “sucks.”

Well, “Stillknocks” heard Muhammad’s comments and torched him on Ariel Helwani’s show today (Tues. Feb. 18, 2025).

“Belal Muhamad, I can’t even remember the way he fights. Has he ever finished anyone?” Du Plessis said. “I like how he acts as if he has a choice to ever go up to 185. The UFC will never let him. He would have to give up his belt, and there is no way they give him a title shot. The UFC doesn’t even like Belal Muhammad.”

“He hasn’t even defended his belt once,” Du Plessis added. He’s definitely better on Twitter than he is in fights.”

The Middleweight champion sure does have a way with words, and sometimes he makes fighters cry like this.

But beyond being critical, Du Plessis does have a point with Muhammad as it took “Remember the Name” nine fights to get a Welterweight title shot and receive an automatic Middleweight title shot ain’t happening.

So, good luck?

I still don't understand why he gets this treatment.
It just doesn't seem fair.

Read my comment above. The guy is a total jerk. He probably is trying to be a heel character, but it is coming off as more annoying and laughable than genuinely being perceived seriously. It looks worse considering how boring he is as a fighter. Add to that, he has not even defended his title even once and bailed out of a fight with Shavkat. He also said Strickland deserved all of the child abuse he got.

This whole thing started with him disrespecting Dricus. He called the whole middleweight division garbage (except his bias towards his friend Khamzat). He said he could take the middleweight belt easily. He even posted how he would beat Dricus (and it was hilariously terrible).

Is that not what he was supposed to do?
In this new world of fake pro wrestling MMA?

That is true. Valid point. I mentioned above to clarify, he is trying to do this heel character. Just he comes across as annoying. It just does not fit his personality, for some reason. That is all I can figure.

I sadly agree with that.
I wish we could go back to people just fighting!

You are right- there is nothing worse than inspiring indifference. I think Belal is even worse than that- he is an obstruction- preventing a good and exciting bunch of MW from moving up to prominence.

BwahahLOL!!! Whiny Sherdoggies. Whine and gripe more than a woman during PMS.
...It's up to other fighters to beat Belal. But they haven't been able to.
...Edwards was the one to put on the 'sleeper' of an attempt at a title defense.

I don't know how Belal is going to convince top brass to give him a MW ts.

I don't mind his fighting style, but not wanting to defend his belt against Islam because he trained with him a few times is very disappointing.

Belal just doesn't have the physical appeal and charisma to be a popular champ.

Some people have it and some don't. He's one of those just lacks any appeal at all.

Plus his fighting style is lame.
