Taking Beatings & Forgetting Names

This log smells like a house no one has lived in for a long time. Needs more ass-kickery.

Goals & Plans for 1st Quarter of 2010

January - 1 fight near end of month
February - 2 fights
March/April - 1-2 fights leading up to Golden Gloves

December Notes: Basically just going to finish up the year with just skill training and a few LSD runs. Got back to the gym yesterday for the first time in a month due to travel. Not a whole lot of time before the holidays, so will just get back into shape. No focus on extra conditioning or diet changes.

January Notes: I want to compete in the Gloves at 152 pounds, so the plan for January is to get as close to that as possible. I'd like to get down to 155 or so and get my first fight of the year near the end of the month.

February Notes: Maintain weight around 155 pounds, and fight twice.

March Notes: Still up in the air when the regional tournament will be held, so this will either be all dedicated to the gloves, or I will try to get 1-2 more fights in before the start date. Hoping that the fights will be in San Francisco this year instead of all the way out in Vacaville, as that will create some problems.

Good luck on the gloves. Do you have a physical beforehand? I think they weigh you then also, although you dont reallly have to make the weight by then. How much do you weigh now?

Not sure about the physical before the tournament. They give us a mini-physical when we get our licenses renewed each year, so I would expect that to be sufficient. Before each of my fights they have had a doctor talk to you for a bit about past injuries, check your heart rate, etc., but nothing more in depth than that.

I know that I will have to make weight before each individual fight.

I was 162 this morning after not doing shit for a month.

I see, assuming theres a lot of 152ers you might get a few prelims that will give you 1,2, or 3 lb weight allowance. There were dudes fighting at 155. I dont think you should have much of a problem making the weight.
I was actually considering the gloves 2010 but I dont feel I can make the weight, and they said I would be open if I compete again.

Oh really? I didnt know they have prelims if they have a deep weight class...I just thought you would have to fight every night of the tournament. That would be interesting to have to fight just to make it into the first round of the tournament.

As I understand it, you only have to fight open if you have 10 fights or you won a regional tournament.

Over here in NY, the population is just gigantic in general, (includes upstate and long island), so the tournament actually starts in mid January, and goes on till April. It also seems like every other kid from the Bronx is raised to fight.

Instead of fighting every night, they have seperate shows exclusively for popular weight classes with most people (mens novice 141,152,165, etc). Then starting from early march I think the quarters actually start. So youd have to fight at least 5 fights, maybe less if you are lucky and get a bye.
I know someone who had to get through 4 fights to get to the semifinals at 141 novice.

As for the open weight class, if you participate in 3 or more tourneys (or 2 major) I think they place youi in the open. Thisll be my 3rd round.

162? How tall are you again? And didn't there used to be like 20lbs more of you?

Ah gotcha...I think we will have less people. NorCal region is fairly good-sized, with big cities in San Francisco, Sacramento and others, but it seems like no one that I have talked to has had prelim fights. Some of the more popular weight classes just have to fight 5-6 nights in a row to get to the championships.

Whats your record at?

SB - I'm 5'10. The most I weighed was about 185.

Whats your record at?

Quite horrible. 1-2 on book, but really 1-4 because one of them came in oveewight, the other one forgot his book at the event. Its been overall a shitty year for me, so Im taking some time off to get everything back together before fighting again

Ive had a few fights canceled on me because of guys forgetting their books. What should have been a fight got downgraded to an "exhibition." Sucked...

So...I was making the plans for the golden gloves, but it sounds like they may be out in Vacaville again this year. That means it would be too far away to participate in.

I am still playing with the idea, but I am thinking that a new year might call for a new sport. Considering putting western boxing on the backburner for a bit, and taking up Muay Thai and no-gi grappling. The gym that I am looking at even has my boxing coach there for a few days a week. Just potentially looking into the idea of mixing things up and becoming a bit more well-rounded. Thoughts?

Too far away? An hour drive is too far away? This is NOR-CAL tournament you are talking about. Boxers from the entire top half of the state but you are un-willing to drive an hour.

I see a lot of talking and zero training. The last training day was in mid November.

Fail.

Ok, so I am really, really going to maintain a log this time.

*giggles*

Make any comments you want.

Will do.

I would just ask that you refrain from posting too many pictures, because it makes it difficult to find the training comments.

Oooooh, THAT'S why we can't find the training comments.
