Do you do both on the weights for height and distance or do you use the different weights in different weight categories?

There aren't different weight categories in the one I'm doing, just levels of competition.

Amateur, and open.

Some of the guys competing in the open are professional throwers, so...I'll be competing as an amateur.

You do both weights for any given event. The Caber you start with a lighter, shorter log and everybody works their way up until all but one is eliminated. I think the largest Caber is 160lbs, 18'.

So 400 lbs is 28.5714 Stones. Cool. I see a "30 stone" challenge after the 400 challenge.

420?

Appropriate, cuz I'll need a painkiller after that.

Trying to flip an 18 foot log end over end is a cool hobby.

It's not going to be wondrously impressive by highland athlete's standards. But I hope to do well enough to be impressed with myself.

well you're young. i would have to imagine a lot of the guys there are a alot older.

Are you goint to be sporting that kilt properly?

As in, nothing under it? 'Cause if that's the case, he'd better find another place to upload, I don't think Youtube accepts that kind of stuff...

The sport kilts generally worn at Highland Games events are of a lighter material than your old-school, all wool Scottish kilt. If you go into an athletic competition wearing what amounts to a thin skirt and no underwear, you deserve whatever embarassment and/or genital-crushing injury you have coming to you.

Sorry boys, I'll be wearing compression shorts under my sporting kilt. I don't want to be bouncing all over the place now.

Today was kind of weird, I was doing a whole bunch of Oly lift stuff and not really feeling it, first pull was fine but just wasn't feeling powerful through second pull. I guess it's due to being two days removed from Z-deads. So I did what any person who feels his back and hamstrings are too tired would do.

Deadlifts off 4" box:
80 (176) x3
120 (264) x3
140 (308) x3
150 (330)
160 (362)
170 (374)
182.5 (402)
Rotator cuff stuff, wrist curls, powercurls, isometric stretches.

Zerchers seem to rape my hammies and glutes....

almost thought u were going to say 'so being sore from zerchers....i did the most logical thing...more zerchers'

This was a cunning plan actually, I'm now racing to 400 on zerchers and I figure BTR deads are a pretty good way to train for them as they are the closest thing I've got, but still allow me to let my forearm bruises heal.
