Movies STREET FIGHTER (Full Cast Announced Including Alexander Volkanovski, post #247; Cast Assembled for Photo, post #222)

I dont understand the idea of casting an old rapper to play balrog while the actual Tyson is stoll around. I mean there are any number of actors with that build.

Capcom is dodging Rog-Tyson association for decades, it's literally the reason we call him Balrog while he's STILL M.Bison (MIKE Bison) in Japan

They even went further saying Balrog and SF1 Mike are not same person and joke on it, when clearly was their intention lol

Btw old Tyson is too old and too small for it

There are a lot of characters that should not be in this including FeiLong and DeeJay.
Why
Even if not part of the original 12 they were both added before Akuma, and Akuma is confirmed to be in the movie

Akuma is a goat character heavily tied into the plot, feilong is a bruce lee trope. He doesnt really have a place in the plot. Hes almost like balrog to tyson except balrog has a stronger establish arc. I recall i.ln thw SF2 anime deejay was some guy they asked for directions or something.

The thing with actual sumo wrestlers is that they have strict moral code to follow, they're not pro wrestlers

Example sumo guy in Van Damm's The Quest was indeed a legit former sumo guy (a Yokozuna even) but was retired from sumo and not in good terms, then turned pro wrestler
So play a role in a movie, getting beated up while repping sumo he would give no fucks

Even retired sumo guy who wants keep honor sumo would probably refuse

I wonder how they did casting in that Netflix show
you should join the sumo thread.

place in the plot depend from the plot lol

If you have it be like martial arts tournament (wich would be most decent plot) you can just have Fei and DeeJay just fighting there like others not having particular story deepth/link with story events (Honda is just a sumo guy wanting to promote sumo)

If we want use SF2 anime as value of what's worth, Akuma there have a mute few seconds cameo in a corner selling fruits as wink to SFA art, DeeJay at least fight some criminals (while cyborg take data on him implying he's worthy fighter), speak a bit and throw a kick lol (and Fei Long have one of best fights of whole anime)

Street Fighter — and its parent studio Legendary — have a new place to call home. Legendary has inked a three-year pact with Paramount to distribute its movies, with the Capcom video game adaptation Street Fighter the first out of the gate. The Kitao Sakurai-directed feature now has a release date of Oct. 16, 2026.

The film is currently in production, with Paramount and Legendary releasing the first plot details for the movie, which will be set in 1993, the year the popular game Street Fighter II hit arcades.

Here’s the new logline: “Set in 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament: a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury. But behind this battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past. And if they don’t, it’s GAME OVER!”

The Legendary deal, now official, was reported to be in talks on Aug. 18 and comes after its output deal with Sony expired at the end of 2024. Legendary’s former partner Warner Bros. will continue to distribute key franchises such as the eventual sequel to the nearly $1 billion hit A Minecraft Movie, as well as 2026’s third Dune and 2027’s Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.

The Street Fighter movie has a sprawling cast, including Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, Andrew Koji as Ryu, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i as Akuma, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Eric André as Don Sauvage, Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim, with Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog and Jason Momoa as Blanka.

It also stars Orville Peck as Vega, Olivier Richters as Zangief, Hirooki Goto as E. Honda, Rayna Vallandingham as Juli, Alexander Volkanovski as Joe, Kyle Mooney as Marvin and Mel Jarnson as Cammy.

This is just one of many key early moves made by David Ellison’s new Paramount, which lured Stranger Things creators the Duffer Bros. from Netflix, inked a $7.7 billion deal for UFC rights, and signed Will Smith’s Westbrook to a first-look film deal.

50 Cent, Andrew Schulz, Eric Adnre and Volk give me doubts lol... Hopefully it's just a cameo for shits and giggles. If they do a Bloodsport type of movie it could be entertaining. Seems like they're willing to spend considerable money in it if they got Momoa. Hoping they haven't blown their entire budget already.

NGL, I have lost all optimism for this movie. I suspect it's gonna be a steaming lop of shit.

Now, I wouldn’t mind more melanin on the Cammy they actually end up casting… as long as (a) they cast someone with an actual English accent; (b) they put her in something resembling the source material costume; and most important of all (c) they get someone who can do a significant portion of the fight choreography herself!

I mean, it’s a big island, it can’t be that hard to dig up a British equivalent of Rayna Vallandingham, right?

😲 OK, OK, OK, it seems my manifesting game on this one was strong... but slightly off target.

Who the fuck is Juli?! I know it's been something like 30 or 35 years since those days, but I'll only be 43 in October, so I should be able to remember the character from when I played the Street Fighter II in SNES.

But going more to the substance of the matter, of all these people, the only ones I trust implicitly to do an oustanding job with the fight choreography, all by themselves, no stuntpeople required, are these two:

Makes you wonder about what the writer is thinking.

"Do you know which character we really need in this movie? Julie!"

The cast will likely be too big to begin with.

They couls just get over it. Tell everyone they were making a funny joke because m bison kinda sounds like mike tyson. Maybe mike auditioned for the role of Bison and the crew saw a slight resemblence to balrog instead

About that, I think they want to have their cake and eat it too.

I suspect they want to be able to have some of the fights in the movie actually be to the death, but they know the fans would collectively shit a brick if they killed off one of the actually iconic characters, so they're mining the games for cannon fodder that can be killed off without anyone giving a shit.

Like Dan she's a SFA character (SFA3 actually), she was'nt in in SF2

Brainwahsed girl that works for Bison

Also Joe is also not from SF2, he's SF1 char

Guess they just wanted Rayna because she hot, kinda popular and can fight
Juli is actually good pick for her

Guess will play small support role, just have Bison at some point order her to have hot fight with Cammy or Chun Li lol
