Stipe has 3 record at HW and still underrated

What UFC shill galore of a thread.

Stipe never beat an elite HW in their prime and got knocked dead by Struve and taken down by Joey Beltran at 30 years old.

He would get his shit pushed in by Pride Fedor who won the HW belt in 2003 and went on to win his next 18 fights spanning into 2010 with wins over multiple top 3 HWs who were in their 20s and in their absolute prime unlike Stipe's best wins who were senior citizens with over a decade of KO losses and fight mileage.

Stipes overrated career of crushing senior citizens can't make Fedors career a sandwich no matter what any UFC shill says.

If you consider beating bums in Japanese soil are wins to celebrate, that's your criteria. Ok, Stipe lost to Struve (lucky punch, but he lost, ok), but at least Struve is not Maldonado, a bum from a below division to make it worse lol.
How was it a lucky punch? The one he threw at the man's face and landed it?
And I love when people talk about Fedor (probably) losing to Fabio. So what? It happens. I suppose Chuck, Wandy, Rampage, Mir, Handy, Anderson, Vitor, Arlovski, Hendo, Aldo, Cruz, Cyborg and any other all-time great who lost near the end of their career always sucked too.

Agreed, he's pretty meat and potatoes with his style. The one thing he's got over other HW's though is his technique with his boxing. Since he trained boxing even before he fought MMA, he's actually learned a decent concept of footwork and stringing combinations together. You rarely see these things at HW as most fighters there haven't been boxing near long enough to implement any of that during a fight.

Stipe didn't box before MMA. Hell, it took some cajoling to get him to start to spar...you should hear him recount his "baptism by fire." But he was taught at Strong Style by a bona fide boxing trainer, Joe Delguyd. The Golden Gloves thing people keep citing happened during the gap between his amateur and pro career.

DC fights where nice, but not the best trilogy ever.

He has some great wins no doubt about it. The majority of his notable wins are over former & aging vets though I wouldn't say they were completely washed up but they weren't in their prime either. In my opinion, he doesn't beat a prime Ubereem who was a relentless strong starter, I see fights with JDS or DC going 50/50. Hunt kind of had two primes, in Pride he was stronger athletically and his striking was on point, but he lacked grappling ability he continually worked on during his later years...even in their prime I could see Stipe outwrestling Hunt but Stipe is very hittable. The best version of Stipe beats any version of AA, Roy Nelson & Werdum.

I still don't consider him the greatest HW of all time, he's a solid contender for the #2 spot but so are Werdum & Nog. Nog doesn't get enough credit as he took a few heavy beatings in his career. I'd personally have it Fedor, Stipe & Nog.

Stipe is a great champion who's fought mostly great competition, and I agree he's under-rated in some ways, but over-rated in others.

In terms of his skills, I think he's pretty over-rated. He's a rangey striker with good wrestling, and that's it; basically, he's just an improved version of Tim Sylvia.

What Stipe doesn't get enough credit for is his mental game. He's excellent at always showing up to fights in shape and a good gameplan. He rarely makes mistakes in fights, at least critical ones, and he's proven to be able to fight through adversity. I think that's been the key to his success.

When did Tim Sylvia apply any sort of offensive wrestling game?? And when did Tim every show the type of boxing skill and overall stand up game that Stipe did? They are not alike.

Fedor GOAT.

There are reason why no professional fighters claimed Stipe was Goat on twitter after beating DC last time.
It’s because DC works for the UFC and they’d have to see his stupid face at work all the time

@BFoe this is ridiculous. Tim Sylvia starches both these guys. <Lmaoo>I’m just playin with you. I agree on the “prime arlovski” thing

Fighting the same guy for 3 years also has to be a record.

I have the same name in the "Big 4" of all time but not at the same place :

1/ Fedor

2/ Stipe

3/ Werdum

4/ Big Nog

Big Nog has significantly more top 10 wins than both Stipe and Werdum. He was also champion in Pride and Interim champion in the UFC.

Prima Fedor got knocked out by a middleweight that was six years older than him.
