Is anyone else f**king tired of these "passing the torch" type storylines??

I honestly dgaf about this stuff. Just show me an original movie!

EU/Legends has great stories that dont rely on Luke or Vader or Death Stars

Check them out

Yet it didn’t destroy snokes ship

Galen Erso didn't plant a ticking time bomb in Snoke's ship. If you hit the Death Star in the right spot it will explode. Your argument is like saying the super star destroyer falling on the death star didn't destroy it so Luke's torpedoes or Wedge and Lando's torpedoes shouldn't be able to destroy it. But they went to the sweet spot. And hyperspace jumping to the sweet spot will also destroy it.

Honestly not sure what can be salvaged at this point. They've written themselves into a big corner here banking that we will all jump on the backs of Mary Sue after insulting our childhood heros. And that's not even mentioning that the rest of the movie was just absolute garbage.

This was probably the worst passing of the torch I've ever seen. Not only are your new hero's kind of bland and boring, but you insult the viewer's old heros in a shitty attempt to build up your new heros.

Not. Smart.

Who's going to take the third movie ? Have the studio announced it yet ?

One thing I found was Kylo Ren was awesome for much of the movie- from the smashing up the helmet, through the force bridge conversations with Rey, to the throne room scene- but, I feel after that, they just kind of squandered away that momentum. As soon as Rey told him to go take a piss, he devolved from really interesting character to power-hungry, whiny Snoke substitute. He's the Supreme Leader now? Big deal. Either he turns which is redundant of Vader or he gets murked by Rey which would be more of the same from TFA.

I think JJ is? But he's probably like "ffs all the shit I set up is ruined except the knight of ren..."

WTF do I do now??

Given that the Knights of Ren have not been introduced yet, one would hope that they are a big thing in the third one and make a significant impact.

I don't know why people keep framing this in this way. It isn't true.
You guys throwing around false accusations of misogyny do your own cause no favor when you stamp everything and everyone that disagrees with you as a misogynist.

There were legitimate reasons for the hate on the female characters. They weren't hated for being female.
I've heard practically no complaints about Leia, GENERAL Leia, LEADER of the resistance. No one questions her leadership capabilities or place, the only complaint about her was her sudden adeptness of the force.

People have said that Rey is a good character, and her relationship with Ren and Luke was amongst the best stuff in the movie, BUT it makes no sense how she is more powerful than EVERYBODY without a single day of jedi training. Has nothing to do with her being a girl. Finn got a lot of shit in TFA for being able to hold his own as long as he did against Ren. This is a problem of "power levels" being set just to further the current plot, rather than to make sense.

Laura Dern's character was fucking stupid. Purple haired granny is the commander? No. Purple haired anybody could fuck off. You could have put a male in her same exact role and i would have hated it. It was a terrible character and plot. But making it a woman, coupled with Leia already being in charge, Rey being the new force goddess, and Rose having to save dumb Finn's foolish little life/make him do the right thing, made this look like a furthering an agenda, instead of making a good, coherent film.
You are seeing what you want to see dude....I literally thought about NONE of those female issues that you mentioned while watching the movie... you are right those characters could have been a man or a woman... if there were men ok no issue with me.... but they were women..ok so why would I make an issue about it? ... understand that it is YOU the one making an issue with the fact that they were chosen to be female.... MANY people dont have a problem or as it was my case didnt even think at all about a gender issue with the roles... you dont represent the opinion of the world and neither do I...but it is YOU the one making an issue about it...its not the world... you have an opinion and thats fine but dont come and say it as if its the opinion of the world...no dude it is you the one chosing to see the world that way, its YOUR OPINION...and I dont agree and many people dont either, and thats just that.

even if that were true...theirs no evil that's spanned 3 films that i wanna see get toppled. Kylo is no big baddy. So I dunno how they, in one movie...can invest the viewer much.

JJ Hack

The guy who ruined Star Trek

Screw it. Let's burn this shit down to ash.

Snoke is plagues, and Ren and Rey have to team up defeat him when he cheats death yet again.

Rey is the daughter of vadars apprentice, starkiller.

Some things like that. They can also explain a few of the holes in TLJ.

Starkiller lol

Ironically he is a better character than any of the ones in these new movies

Whatever, man. I don't have a cause here, I don't care. I'm just calling it the way I see it. How many times have we heard people toss around "Mary Sue" when Luke was exactly as broken a character in TOS? If you don't see the attitude I'm talking about, fine. People have flat out said in this thread they aren't invested when it's a heroine as opposed to a hero.

Both Ren and Rey are crazy powerful, that's the deal. Ren took out Luke, and then wiped out most of the other young Jedi. For whatever reason, they both have a metric ton of raw power, so much power it terrifies Luke Freaking Skywalker. Rey isn't any more powerful than Ren. Laura Dern was OK, kind of a dumb character, and the hair was silly, but why call her a granny? If she was a man would you call her grandpa? Also, did you think Rose was making him do the right thing? She saved him because she loved him. I was pissed because it was a pretty fucking stupid thing to do.

Also also, why is Leia's strength with the Force sudden to you? We know she's a Skywalker. She's had decades to learn. In the expanded universe, she's pretty powerful. In the movies, Luke has said she's strong with the Force. It was a cool idea, although the execution was terrible, she looked like the wicked with of the west.

At the end of the day, it wasn't a great movie. While I really enjoyed TFA, I felt nothing at any point during TLJ, except when Luke marched out alone, and that scene ended up a lot less cool than we deserved.

I just don't see an agenda here. I see more women getting prominent roles, and I see a lot of guys bitching about it. I've spent most of this year absorbing a great deal of anti-feminist literature and while I agree the situation is getting out of control regarding equality of outcome as opposed to equality of opportunity, I don't see a problem with what's happening in film. I don't see an agenda here. Films are driven by profits, and if something isn't working it will change.
Rey and Luke are not in the same ballpark.
Luke had consequences. He gets his ass kicked, he loses a hand, Vader is the one that ends up helping him in the end. We saw him struggling to train with Yoda.
Where is Rey's struggle? Untrained, she beat TRAINED BY LUKE SKYWALKER Ren the first time she picked up a light saber. She and Ren take out like 10 Luke and Snoke trained knights...AND she ends up saving trained Ren. She can fly the falcon, she can speak Wookie, she can use the force, she can beat Luke...there is nothing she can't do in these films.
At least with Luke we saw his development and struggle. Rey has no consequences or struggle, and it's not because she's a girl. It's bad writing.
Lol and how is Rey not anymore powerful than Ren? She beat him in the first movie, she saved him in the 2nd movie, during their force connection--she could see him, but he couldn't see her even though he has a ton more Force experience AND the Skywalker blood, she also recovered before he did and was able to escape in a ship after the light speed kamikaze.

I would totally call a male a grandpa if the movie gave me a purple haired, frail old man, and tried to pass him off as a military commander. I kept waiting for the film to SHOW me why this lady is such a badass, and it never did. Anybody could have done what she ended ended up doing.

Leia is sensitive to the force...that is a big difference from using it to fly through space. I don't want to hear about "what happened in the books or comics". The Leia we know in the films has never actually used the force, and for the first time she does is for her to do some master level jedi shit out of nowhere?

I'm liberal, and a minority, so im not some "angry white guy " , or right winger looking to be offended. Im all for more diversity and equality, but this movie felt like clear pandering to me. I don't think it was THE goal of the film, but it felt like they were willing to sacrifice story and coherence for showing "equality" and girl power...instead instead of just writing a good story with good female characters.
I am not against female characters. I am against shit that doesn't make sense, and shitty characters. They are making lazy, shitty female characters just so they can check off "Strong Female lead" off the checklist

They are running out of other options. He was a great character, even in a non-canon, somewhat silly capacity.

Episode 9 opens with an extreme close up of Rey's eyes. Pull back to reveal she's standing in front of Luke, holding his lightsaber. Luke says "Uh, you okay...you haven't said a word in about 90 minutes" Rey says "Oh, just a terrible day dream." Movie begins. It then still sucks because it's JJ Abrams.

While many people go out of their way to actively see gender politics and propaganda in films, I think one actually has to make an effort to blind oneself to it in this particular film.

I'd be ok with that

I think I'm just going to agree to disagree here, because I think it was a bad movie, and I'm tired of these arguments. You're making the ones I've already seen a dozen times, and it's exhausting. You just do you.
