One thing to note is at 54, Michelle Yeoh would be the oldest lead ever cast for Star Trek. Now she dosen't look 54, but that is kinda old, especially since she's reported to be the lead. Maybe shes actually playing another role.

I thought the lead was going to be a black lady

Or maybe I'm thinking about the captain

You mean kinda old for a Lieutenant Commander role? Well who knows. She looks 40-ish and afaik Starfleet never had 'up or out'.

She probably is too old for 7 seasons plus potential movies, but I doubt that is where we are headed.

Yeah just kinda old for a lt. Cmdr, but she does look like she's late 30 or early 40s. Of course people live much longer in the future and age shouldn't be a factor. Shes a beautiful actress, so I have no complaints. The article is just speculation too so we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves. Could be another character for all we know, but a minority female bill would be met.

Fuller said a few years ago that he wanted Angela Basset to be his captain if he ever made a new series.

Also, imagine the market in China and Asia in general.

Based on this chart, We have a guaranteed 6 good years from Yeoh. We might even make it to 10ish before she ages roughly 30 years in a matter of weeks, where she will then have to be written off as some sort of warp coil Treknobabble accident killing her off by rapidly aging her.

I approve of this casting. Maybe trek will get a good fight coordinater and put her in some sick hand to hand scenes.

Star Trek 4: The Voyage home, came out 30 years ago today. By far the most successful of original cast films.

Jonathan Frakes just did an interview about First Contacts 20th anniversary, and was asked if he will be directing Discovery. He said he inquired and received no phone call back. He did say this was before Bryan Fuller departed, and he said he heard there has been some turmoil. He said he will inquire again, and that he worked numerous times with new showrunners Gretchen J. Berg and Aaron Harberts, on Smallville, and had a great relationship with them.

I wonder if they'll put Doug Jones under a ton of makeup as usual or use motion capture.

Make up I'm sure.

Anthony Rapp is Science officer and fungus specialist. He apparently is the previous announce gay officer.

CBS has apparently taken notice of DS9 increase popularity and is releasing the DS9 box set on DVD. These set go for big money second hand on ebay and amazon so they are looking to cash in. Same content as the old DVD set and not redone in HDTV like the TNG Sets. But it means if they keep seeing interest in DS9, they may give it the full HD treatment it deserves.

Side note: has anyone messed with Star Trek Timelines on their phone?

Wondering if I'm wasting my time.. kinda interesting for fans, but repetitive and they try to sell you a bunch of shit.

I got the DS9 box set off ebay a few years ago, and it was a knock off. lol it was like $100 for the entire set.

I guess that confirms Tarsus IV

The timeline doesn't work out. The massacre at Tarsus IV took place 20 years before the original series. Discovery is supposed to take place only 10 years before Kirk's 5 year mission.
