There are reports that Discovery will have up to 12 minutes of ads on All Access. Something tells me that's a bad, bad idea. If this series is worth anything, it is gonna be a huge hit around the world on Netflix and is gonna tank on All Access.

So wait, their paid subscription streaming service might have nearly the same amount of ads as if it were airing on a broadcast network? lol, go home CBS, you're drunk.

was the federation made up of lost of non human species pre TOS? I for some reason thought it was mainly human and vulcan.

It had 4 main founding species.

Vulcan
Human
Andorian
Tellorite

As @Cyke_out said It was founded by the Humans, Vulcans, Tellerite, and Andorians. Many other species quickly joined the Federation, but you have to remember that Star Fleet is just one part of the Federation. Many species are not as adaptable or curious as humans, so not as many will join Star fleet as explorers. Early on Tellerites became some of the best federation politicians or trade negotiators, where as Andorians took more prominent roles in the Federation defense forces, and sharing shipbuilding and weapons tech. Hopefully discovery explores this more.

Pretty good article speculating about what the series could deal with:

http://www.tor.com/2016/08/15/6-stories-that-star-trek-discovery-could-tell/

The establishment of the Prime Directive and Donatu V seem the most likely ones imo.

Donatu V is also in the Beta Quadrant - @sverre054 had once mentioned its exploration as a possible story arc.

I think there is lots of potential there. I just hope they don't screw up with all the expectations (be diverse, make a whole season story arc, get enough viewers and update the show's look but remain Trek-like and canon enough not to lose the hardcore fans). But I have hope.

So what exactly was the Anamaxa-whatever event that was referred to by the fan made short?

The Battle of Axanar is related to te Klingon War according to the makers of Axanar, but it seems like it could be related to a whole lot of other stuff because it was never really told in the series.

So, not a lot of specifics?

What was that event where a federation ship sacrificed itself and thats what made the Klingons respect the federation? Think it came up in one of the romulan tasha yar episodes?

That was the Enterprise-C you are referring to. A Klingon Station was surprised attacked by a bunch of Romulans. The Federation and Klingons had not signed the peace treaty and were still technically at wqr. The Enterprise C Fought the Romulans and was destroyed in the process. Klingons saw the honor in the Federation and led to the Peace Treaty. The episode Yesterdays Enterprise(amazing episode) shows the C and D meeting in a alternate timeline.

Yeah the Star Trek books have been killing it the past few years. The destiny trilogy is one of the best sci fi books, let alone Star Trek books. I could see them lifting some events from book series. They actually just added one of the Trek book authors to the new series as a writer.
I grew up loving TNG. If you could advise a book series, or a first book to buy to start out. I've heard that ST fiction has been very good in recent years but I don't know more than that.

Is this from TNG?

What's the name of the episode where they're caught in the time loop and it keeps repeating over and over and the Enterprise keeps getting destroyed?

Thank you. I saw it once on TV several years and loved it. Haven't been able to find it since. Does Amazon Prime, Hulu, or Netflix play TNG? I'd definitely like to check it out again.

CBS All Access or probably Netflix (you will need to check for your location). Prime only has TOS and VOY where I am.

Netflix has every single episode of every single trek tv series available for viewing. I basically watch an episode or two each week.

I would really love to see them go FURTHER in the future, like after Voyager and that awful Nemisis movie

So if they're in the future we can get cameos from all the other characters of the other shows.
That would be awesome and I bet most hardcore fans would be pleased. Imagine cameos from fans favorite from TNG, VOY, DS9, awesome.

Since most of these actors are old today, it would work perfectly. Unfortunately, ENT cameos would not work, the characters would be too old for that...
