* Show will be set in the prime universe, about a decade before TOS

*show will feature a crew with quite a bit more aliens then the other series.

*

*will feature many new aliens and a remaking of some well known star trek aliens. They said it's 2016 and will be updating the styling of the aliens and ships decor and tech to today's standards, which Fuller knows may irk some fans, but he says to wait and see what they are going for.

This time period could be Romulus war, Axanar/Klingon border wars, exploration of beta quadrant ect... Or maybe something new. Who knows....

Nothing sounding really wrong what I read but the fact that the lead role has not been cast yet seems weird to me.

I mean it is stated that a) the event is mentioned in TOS and b) the series is set 10 years before Kirk. I believe that excludes Axanar.

I actually stand corrected. Seems like I was a little bit too quick to dismiss th Axanar thing because I had the fan film timeline in mind which placed the battle in 2245 (21 years before TOS). It actually seems like this is not a necessary thing based on the series. There is this book series

http://stexpanded.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Trek:_The_Four_Years_War

which places the war with the Klingons in the 2250s.

My money is on Axanar / the War with the Klingons (or whoever the battle was actually against!)

Sounds good so far

Little bummed that its so much earlier then TOS

Was kinda hoping for some new cool Tech to show off

I just thought about this a bit further. I mean Bryan Fuller was officially named as the showrunner in February, but I am sure talks had been ongoing since months earlier.

The Axanar lawsuit was launched in late December.

Think about it. If you are CBS and you know your new series will play on the same unexplored timeframe as this fan production with insane production values and hardcore fan attention - you need to shut it down. This might also be why Justin Lin and JJ Abrams eventually failed in their attempt to make the lawsuit go away: there is just no way you can allow this production to be first.

I can also not remember Bryan Fuller commenting on Axanar ever.

The good thing about this is that it makes me believe that the restrictive fan film guidelines might be relaxed in the future.

Interesting the main Star will be a Lt Commander, so likely a 2nd officer.

Not too happy with the story being injected preTOS but will give it a shot.

Definitely not subscribing to CBS All Access though with the preseries news. Fuck that. I'd be more inclined to just buy it on iTunes if it comes out promptly, like most other shows.

So Spock's mom might be one of the characters. Fantastic.

I'm on board with the show's focus being on someone other than the Captain, however whomever is in that chair has gotta have the screen presence to pull it off.

Show's gonna need Combs in the main cast.

I have very little faith in any new Star Trek incarnations.

Shit will be blowing up every episode. Eventually someone will be twerking.
I find your lack of faith disturbing... Err I mean...

But seriously, it's like any upcoming show, I reserve judgement until I see it.

I would say there is a good chance we will have our first Andorian bridge officer.

I rewatching ENT and in season 4 and there is so many great Andorian episodes. With DSC they keep stating they want to explore LGBT and of diversity issues, how about having multiple Andorians on board. Andorians have 4 sexes. 2 male, 2 female. All four are needed for reproduction, but the 4 don't necessarily stay together or even get along. That may even be too complicated for trek though. In the book universe, the Andorians have had a crisis due to fertility and populations issues.

We certainly don't get enough of that in today's media.

"Set phasers to FABULOUS!"

Female lead......no
forced gay character.....no
"reimagaining".....no
pre ToS, or any form of prequel.......no
just no. I coudlnt be more dissapointed so far. i am not a huge trekkie or anything, I dont know a lot of trivia, and i missed many episodes, but i have seen a ton. I binge watched many seasons of the show. I even didnt mind janeway after a while, and i think shattner is a riot. but this stinks of poo. plus that trailer looked hella janky. ive never had to say that before, and having to use that phrase now angers me, but thats what it was.

janeway grew on me too - her little woman power episodes with b'ellana were really annoying in the first season or 2 but now that i'm in season 6, i prefer her over Sisko and 2nd behind the GOAT Picard

the Doctor and Tuvoc are easily my 2 favorite characters on Voyager

Tuvoc is just so god damned condescending to everyone

What the fuck, before TOS?? Really? Fuck this prequel shit, lame as fuck
