They specifically repeat reimagining alien species, uniforms, technology... I worry how things will fit in the canon and continuity.

Uniforms: no problem. Remember, TNG, DS9 and VOY all had slightly different uniforms.

Tech: that's a difficult one. Do we rather want a sci-fi series that looks into the future or do we want a TV series that does not break canon?

Species redesign: yeah that hurts...the Klingon redesign in the movies (the recent one) sucked.

Hoping it just means giving the aliens a little more vibrant, detailed looks. Ships will probably be much more touch screen and holograms, rather than the TOS flashy lights and buttons. We shall see....

Also if you watch the TNG blu rays, some of the alien makeups look pretty bad in HD. I saw a Romulan that looked like bad zombie make up because of how clear the picture is now. Hopefully they are just tastefully adding some new modern make up techniques, and enhancing the classic characters. I agree the JJverse Klingons make me worry, but I have faith in Bryan Fuller.

I recently watched trials and tribulations and the voyage episode where they went back in time to earth. Both episodes dealt with the temporal investigations side of star fleet. I'd like to see a series based around a time ship and it's crew. Set in the 29th century. It'd be like a less weirder version of doctor who, cuz doctor who gets so fucking weird I barely consider it science fiction.

That is like Legends of Tomorrow.

Why cant they just set this right after VOY comes home, and DS9 ends war with Dominion? Why go back in time? Heck you can have cameios by all the previous actors, and can still be an anthology series.

Out of new ideas or afraid of something new, possibly. Seems like they're 'playing it safe' by trying to expand mythos/history that's already established.. While also reintroducing/reimaging shit and potentially fucking things up in the process.

Depends how they do it indeed. If they stick to the current regressive trend in Islam it could work. Perhaps the Muslim crew member could be dressed head to toe in desert garb, sandals and fight Klingons with a stone tipped spear?

Dunno how ole Gene would react to that but I don't like it. Will not watch if religion is going to be some sort an issue.

Sure, Trek has delt with spirituality and the like, but this is garbage.

Kristen Beyer has taken over the Voyager book series, and has really relaunched that series. She started about 5 or 6 years ago and really recharged a stagnant series and made it one of the most popular book series. She in particular has brought energy into boring characters(Janeway is no longer on Voyager)like Kim and Chakotay and given them some star power.

In addition to being a staff writer, she will be responsible for bridging the comic and book universe, and bringing Discovery into it.


I'm also really excited about David Mack writing the first Discovery book. He is a NYT best seller and has written some incredible scifi, including the GOAT of trek books, Destiny. It really shows they are investing into the series, and are integrating it into the trek canon.

Agree, and this gives them a chance to update the look of star trek, for the modern era. This way they can explore other eras and not have to totally date the look and technology. It won't shock me, if Discovery will time jump in each season, or there have even been theories that it could be some sort of time ship, that jumps into different eras. I say lets give em a chance.
