I am wondering about a couple of timing issues. Fuller said they'd Start shooting in September and end around March. But they want to start the series in January. IMO this does not quite fit with a weekly schedule (was it ever confirmed btw?) and a start on All Access the week after the Pilot.

Seems like I was right

Sad about it being delayed, but yet also relieved. Jan was always way to tight of a schedule. Sounds like they realised that post production and special effects need to be top notch, and they better not throw together stuff like at comic con.

More time also means more money, so this is almost definitely a good thing. I think it was a safe decision for the studio to make with international Netflix revenues already guaranteed.

Variety says there is no female lead cast yet. But that is not the reason for the delay.

Wren T. Brown is killing it as Kohlar on VOY episode, 'Prophecy'.

Aaaaand Neelix just swooped in and "saved" Kim from a sexy Klingon gal. Neelix keeps getting better and better.

From some sources ive been reading it sounds like Fuller really pushed for the delay and used the online buzz the show has been generating to show CBS they needed to spend more time getting the Pre-production teams more time, and to build a larger VFX team, and give them enough lead time to produce really great special effects. This also allows Fuller to complete his work on his other show, American Gods, then fully focus on Trek. It's also sounding like, they have a list of actors they like, but the roles are set up, so they don't have to make specific choices until closer to production. Also saying that quite a few big names and well known actors have approached them to be cast.

In a media conference yesterday, CBS President Les Moonves spoke about why Star Trek: Discovery was delayed.

“We’ve delayed our Star Trek [launch] ’til May,” he said. “For those who think that’s something to be worried about, let me assure you: it’s not.

“The producers came into my office last week and begged me – they said, ‘We are creating an entire universe; you know how fanatical Star Trek fans are. We’re creating this universe, we need a couple more months to get the effects right, to get the world right. Please let us have until May.’

“With Star Trek, which is the family jewels, I’d rather it be a few months late, and great, than early, and not great. Because we will suffer for it.

“So we made the decision to give them the time to make their perfect Star Trek, which we are wildly anticipating. In addition, we have the Good Wife spin-off, which was going to be ready earlier, so basically we just flipped their position [on] our calendar.”

They sure feel the pressure.
Moonves is well known for disliking Trek, and pretty much sealed Enterprises fate during season 1. That's also the reason we've had very little trek in the past decade while he's been in charge. Its pretty clear that Treks success on streaming platforms, and merchandising revenue, has shown him what a valuable property they owned. Now when asked its nothing but praise for the company "family jewels", and are actually supporting the franchise and making sure they get it right.

Sounds like a smart guy. I respect people who are able to learn.

I like how he threw out the good wife spin off, as if that is going to tide over trek fans. I think most trek fans don't watch garbage shows. At least I really hope.

Yeah, you know Trekkies are all anticipating The Good Wife. I for one, can't wait another day.

I'm a tremendous Trek fan, and I watched the Good Wife, though mostly because I'm a lawyer and lawyer TV shows and movies mildly amuse me. Let me assure you, as someone who in fact watched the entirety of Good Wife that it actually did have some merit for about 3-4 seasons, then completely jumped the shark 2/3rds of the way through season 5 and IMO never recovered. The last two seasons, 6 &7 were garbage and I have no interest whatsoever in a fucking spin off. In fact, this is literally the first I've heard of a Good Wife spinoff.

This is honestly also going to be good for CBS all access, so they can develop it a little more, and make sure it works solid, and is available on every device. I can only imagine the rage of trek fans who sign up for all access only to have it crash on launch or have major glitches.

all we need is a babylon 5 reboot and the 90s are back
