Squatting 405: One year for 4 plates

Here's some solid advice that you've probably already heard but is always useful. Know what good depth is. Film every set. Watch them back and scrutinise the fuck out of yourself until you get it right. That's what I had to do with my deadlift at one point, and it worked.

I actually have done that. All the way up to 365 it looks good. Still never as far down as I thought. When my hamstrings feel like they're on my calves I look and I'm only a couple inches below parallel. The shoes help but I'm still adjusting to them and haven't been going for a max yet

Ooh got me
Admitted I'm having difficulty with hitting depth and posted as such at the time I posted the video
Took people's advice and got shoes
Admitted I'm not used to them yet
Said I'd go low weight and get used to them before going for broke
Where's the excuse?
Now when I post a video saying suck it I nailed it and it's high you can attack me

Don't get me wrong, I want you to succeed. It's just an observation. I used to make a bunch of excuses, until I realized everyone has problems. It's what you do that matters.

Your squat was high. Pause your video at the bottom, and you'll see. You either want to fix it or not.

Good luck playa

It was high, but just a bit. I'm just about there

Going to give it a run next week

It wasn't just a bit high. It was about half a foot high. Drop some weight and nail your depth so nobody questions it. Then you'll be solid.

Hitting the hole is what actually makes the lift hard.

I don't even get why you're chasing 405 so hard. It'll just be another squat. It's a great milestone, but the satisfaction will be short lived.

It seems like you're basing all your squat training on hitting 405. Why not just fix your form, find a squat program that will provide you long term, sustainable progress, and just hit 405 when it's there?

What gym is that in Beijing.

I think my back is too messed up to try 405 anytime soon. I tend to stick to 120 kilos or less these days. I'm actually trying to lose weight, I'm thinking of taking spinning class and everything. Of course I'm thinking of taking spinning class for other reasons besides weight loss.

It's Will's Gym in CBD.

Eyeballing smolov
Honestly if I just get more time with the coaches I'll probably zoom right past 405. I work 7pm to 7am though. I hate waking up and then squatting or Deadlifting.
6 5 4 remains my goals. 6 plates dead. 5 plates squat. 4 plates bench. For now 405 squat is the nearest mile marker. I'm close and I want to sprint it out. Then it will be adding tens and then quarters and then the last plate. If i had a little more knowledge I'd set up reverse bands and go to town but I tried it once and I clearly don't have it down .

Smolov is a specialized squat program, which I don't think you need right now. Find a program that will balance your focus and progress on all lifts.

Fuck the coaches, man. The only thing that's going to zoom you past 405 is cleaning up your form and more time under the bar. Coaches might help with form correcting, but the rest is up to you. Your form isn't even terrible, you just need to go down further. And like I said, stop fixating so much on a PR. 405 isn't the end of the road, it's just another plate on the bar and 5 minutes of satisfaction.

Why reverse bands? You're form isn't even nailed down and you can't hit depth. Why are you even thinking about reverse bands? Again, your priorities are sounding a bit fucked up.

I used to work until 7am. You can make it work. Just get into a routine. Even now, I lift within two hours of waking up.

How old are you? Doesn't that kill your back? Maybe my bed sucks but it takes me a couple hours to loosen up. I prefer to go after work with the trade off of course being that I'm tired. Wish my work had free weights still. No idea why we dumped those. I get almost 3 hours where I'm watching videos on YouTube or a movie waiting for someone to try and die. Would be perfect.

The spine and neck swell up with water during the night accounting for most of why you're taller in the morning. It's a bad idea to lift heavy using your back in the morning, you ask for trouble that way.

Tiredness shouldn't do shit, just lift!

I've gone through stretches where I've trained heavy in the morning. Didn't do my back any harm.

I've squatted 585 and deadlifted 640 within two hours of waking up. I'm still here.

Don't be scared, homie.

It is true. Similarly, with age there's less synovial fluid around the joints in the mornings. All it means though is that it will probably take longer to warm-up in the mornings than later in the day.

Former, no. Latter, yes.

Well I'm not sure I can do it. Maybe at the very end of the two hours but i'd be stiff as a brick for sure. I usually get up at 4 and lift at 430 to 5 until 6. I shower and then head to work. That's fine for bench day for me but I don't know about the rest.

I aint normal either, lets be bros.

Thanks, T-Dog. I never work out in the mornings anyways, I'm like a zombie.

Hot shower, SMR, oatmeal, 1-1.5L of strong coffee = good to go.
