Squatting 405: One year for 4 plates

I'm going to get them
I'm just trying to justify it to myself
Eastbay has the Adidas for 130. That's not as bad if the shipping wad free and I can return them after a few sessions.

$130 is a fuckin' steal for Adipowers/Romaleos. So much of a steal that I thought you were mistaken and looking at the wrong shoe. You werent; however, at that price they only have them in red and in sizes 14, 15, and 16. Otherwise you have to pay the $200. They have 20% off coupon codes that get emailed out like once every two weeks. For whatever reason they stopped letting you apply the discount to the Romaleos, but you can still apply it to the Adipowers, so you're looking at $170 after the discount and shipping.

If you need to justify it, $200 or $170 or whatever is a small price to pay if lifting is a serious hobby for you. Most people invest way more money in just about any other hobby.

14 is one size too big
The bastards

Going to have to swallow the pill
Not like I buy a lot of supplements, just preworkout for deadlift day
Thought maybe I'd find last year's model cheaper but the price doesn't budge at all

This is exactly the reasoning I used when I bought a pair of Adidas PowerPerfect shoes a few years ago. They'll last for years - compare that to running shoes which might last a year with regular use. Some people have worn the same lifting shoes for up to a decade, the only thing that can really fail is the strap.

Weight training is a very cheap sport.

I feel like your amount of forward lean is ok, I was always coached that some forward lean is ok. Then again I'm 6'5'' so I HAVE to have some forward lean.

I don't know
Never make it to squat day with the team hardly
Need to do better
They're all much more upright then I am and are about 100 pounds heavier than me in squats and deads, I out bench them though (the non pros)
That rep was only difficult in the middle of the lift because the bar is in front of my center and I had to good morning it up. Soon as it was over my center again it flew up

Are you squeezing your shoulderblades and bending the bar over your back? Also, looking slightly up?

There's also this: http://www.strengtheory.com/fixing-the-good-morning-squat/

... which addresses the weak quad issue that I proposed earlier in the thread. It could be that or technique/lack of tightness/something else. You'll have to tinker with it. Either way, Chad Wesley Smith's suggestions are spot on. For me personally, it happens occasionally due to lack of tightness, but I high bar and front squat all the time, so it's easy to rule out quad weakness. Direct upper back work (as Chad suggests) and the ab wheel are two things I've been incorporating more lately to help deal with this issue as well.

Could prolly hit 405 with those numbers, nice work

x2...

the final sets/reps... those are roughly my #'s. as of 2 hours ago, i am officially a 4 plate squatter. 370, 380, 390, and 405. i tried 405 for 2 more singles and failed. take 2-3 days off and drop some singles over 90%.

Actually have a pair of adipowers on the way and have an ab wheel I'm working with
We shall see if either of those or both help

Congrats!

This video IS good stuff. I really liked those tips when I tried implementing them today. All I usually think is "Sit Back, Knees out" I felt tighter, and stronger really, coming out of the hole after paying attention to my arm position and keeping my shoulders tighter together.

:D

I'm in on this challenge. I could use the extra motivation, but a 4 plate squat is definitely a goal of mine, and right now I need to get my squat back to respectable. It dropped worse than my bench and press for a 5 month layoff due to shoulder surgery (Couldn't reach back to hold the bar on my back even a month after I could press and bench again)

Today I'm hitting the gym and on the schedule is a 3x5 @ 265. Pathetic, as it's actually challenging. Should be going up fast though, running 10 pounds per week progression. Was 3x5 @ 345 presurgery in August. I also pulled 405x3 then, and a 5 plate deadlift is also on my yearly goals.

3x5 @ 345 is basically a 405 squat already. Bjj guy sandbagging? No way...

(kidding, of course)

Thanks, and nice work.

I probably won't make an attempt at 405 for another 1 or 2 months. I wouldn't want to mess up a good training session just to get a new 1RM.

Here's mine:

I could only upload it using my VPN. Hopefully, my post won't get deleted as usual.

Just got my shoes
Surely I will now squat 6 plates...
