Crime Soros-backed Portland county DA's loses to tough on crime candidate

The cops got fussy bc one of their own was being brought up on charges for smashing a journalist in the back of their head with a baton. Tons of videos out there of the incident, the photographer was actively moving away from the cops.

Another cop was in trouble for shooting someone in the head with a tear gas canister. So the swat guys all quit.
Quiting =/= slacking off on the job.

It's a hard, mostly unrewarding job that isn't going to make you rich. The seeming majority of the people from the area very vocally wanted to defund and demonize the police, I can see why they didn't stick around.

Quiet quitting, slow quitting, what ever you want to call it.

As someone who was and is very pro “defunding” the police- our side should have come up with a better phrase.

Yes, I want to take money away from the cops. But I also want to take a lot of the responsibility away too and use that money to fund specialists to handle calls the cops shouldn’t have to respond to.

Right now over the course of a single shift a cop could give a traffic ticket, respond to an assault, take a report for a theft, chase/catch a wild animal, deal with an overdose, stop someone from killing themselves, and provide mental health services to a schizophrenic homeless person who’s running in traffic. Now go serve a warrant, stop kids from smoking pot, etc.

It's asking far, far too much of one person. divvy up the money AND responsibilities.
