Size is more important than ever in UFC

I see where the TS is coming from. Jon Jones is so much bigger than all of the other lhw's, than any lhw has been. And if you consider that Matt Hughes was considered a huge ww in his day, but if you put prime Hughes in the cage with the current version of Rory, he'd be very small. There does seem to be a new breed of fighter (Jones, MacDonald, Weidman) coming up who are making the previous generation of fighters look small, even at the same weights.

It's moving towards height the way boxing and Muay thai have been for years.

If you put a prime Hughes who rehydrated back to 193 in his first fight against BJ in there with the Macdonald of today most mma fans would say Macdonald looks bigger but a meathead/bodybuilder who judges people by the size of their guns would say prime Hughes was bigger.

Even though Frank weighed more....who actually looks the bigger man?

Junior does.

Junior looks taller and a little bit less body fat on him, Frank looks a bit wider and you can't see the legs of either in the picture.

A little bit less body fat?

Franks belly was hanging over his shorts in that fight.

An in shape 240 is much more dangerous than an out of shape 260.

No, it wasn't. He isn't exactly ripped, but he isn't fat either.

None of those are inherently "dangerous" or non-"dangerous".

The fact that the champion in every weight class is never the biggest fighter in his weight class says it all. As far as I know at least I could be wrong don't want to really sit and think about this.

Everybody is top of their game and size becomes the biggest advantage in UFC we already saw guys with nearly no holes in their games outsized by bigger opponents what do you think?

don't see this at all. Size becomes important when your favorite fighter loses and people want to whine about it.

The greatest fighter ever is Anderson Silva who isn't even large for his division, Bendo just smashed a guy who barely made weight because he's a better fighter, Gsp isn't anywhere close to the biggest ww and JDS is a 240 lb heavyweight.

this post is full of fails

Size is only an advantage if your opponent is less technical than you. Not to mention cardio is still the champion of combat sports.

I agree with you TS

In EVERY weight class MW and below the ranks are filled with guys who cut a lot of weight and are very ripped. Edgar is pretty much the only exception.

LHW and HW has guys who do not fit that profile, but they are also the two thinnest divisions in MMA: LHW +HW have as many fighters as LW alone.

Size will matter if both guys are equally skilled but so many different factors to take into account.

Size is not everything.

Athleticism is the most important. Edgar is small but very athletic. Quick and very strong for his size. Also has great cardio and coordination.

Junior does.
In that pic? JDS. But if both of them would have had the same stance Mir would probably have looked bigger.

Not really. Strength, speed and agility is more important than size (the size difference within the weight classes can't be that big) when equally skilled.

Their are way bigger hw's than jds and he is the champ. also frankie

Frankie is 0-2 vs Benson. I thought he wont still but, the point stands. I think quality over quantity applies here. Anderson regardless of weight class would own on athleticism alone and skill set and raw talent.

That's a photo from 130........

At 146 he wasn't in that shape. Much softer and if you go back and watch the fight you can see his belly jiggling all over the place.
