Size is more important than ever in UFC

Bigger could mean slower, look how many times tim sylvia, stefan struve and bigfoot got hit by overhand rights from smaller guys.

JDS is about 240. What was Mir, like 260?

The best version of Mir was around 245 though the one that turned up to fight Lesnar at UFC 100. I would of loved to see him fight JDS. (I know he got killed by lesnar but it would have been a completely different fight)

Smaller guys are usually stronger. Everyone has an advantage somewhere, it's all about how you use it.

JDS is huge and HW is another story, bendo just outsized him 2 times

how is it a different story? in the heavy weight division the weight differences are the biggest youll see in the ufc (if BJ retires!)

MURR!

haha Vera was going to be a two division champion. Is that still going to happen?

Bernard Hopkins: "It's the speed that kills"

Frankie Edgar nearly beating Benson twice.

Frankie Edgar knocking out Gray Maynard.

Cain Velasquez beating Brock Lesnar and Bigfoot Silva.

Size doesn't always matter.

Fedor wouldn't have gone on his epic win streak if his chin were made of glass.

Usain Bolt wouldn't win the 100 meters if he wasn't faster than everyone else.

If Lionel Messi had been born without legs he wouldn't be a very good footballer.

Care to add any more retarded and obvious statements to the list?

It seems like you have very little reading comprehension and completely missed the entire point of that post. The point was not about discrediting Brock, so you can spare that list in your post. The point was that, size, among many other factors, such as speed, skills, strength, et.c, matters, and it is one of the most important factors.

What your really looking at is whether a division has someone who cuts alot of weight AND has truely elite skill.

HW - Hard to say for sure, Overeem might be that man.

LHW - Up until recently nobody had both but Jones now does, its IMHO the reason he's had such a big impact.

MW - Anderson

WW - Hughes, GSP, Fitch.

LW - Still not had a truely elite talent hence the likes of Edgar and Melendez can do well dispite being nature 145ers.

"Size is everything" ? I guess that's why they invented weight classes.

For what it's worth Chael Sonnen will weigh 240lb fight night against Jones, the same weight as JDS, a heavyweight. As new technology and knowledge infiltrates fighters that cut weight we will see a shift of fighters competing in weight classes. All this means is we will see heavier and heavier fighters competing at the weight classes now.

It will never go the reverse as more size = more strength.

Then why don't you explain why in EVERY weight class MW and below the top ranks are filled with guys that cut a lot of weight and are ripped?
Edgar and BJ are pretty much the only exceptions. A few others are not ripped but they cut a lot of weight (e.g. Hendricks)

Silva, Jones don't cut large amount of water weight compared to other top MWs or LHWs yet they are way better than their peers.

But of course size matters if everything else is identical.

It's funny that so many of you are way too retarded to see nuances

The truth is the bigger fighter won't always win against a smaller more skilled fighter and vice versa; skill won't always overcome size differences. We've seen many fights to prove that skill can overcome size and that size can overcome skill and we'll continue seeing both happen frequently.

At the end of the day, it doesn't hurt to both more skilled and bigger.
