CHAUTAUQUA, N.Y. (AP) — Salman Rushdie, the author whose writing led to death threats from Iran in the 1980s, was attacked Friday as he was about to give a lecture in western New York.

An Associated Press reporter witnessed a man storm the stage at the Chautauqua Institution and begin punching or stabbing Rushdie as he was being introduced. The 75-year-old author was pushed or fell to the floor, and the man was restrained.

Someone wanted to collect those millions after all those years. Crazy.

He's spent a lot of time in my hometown of Cambridge, MA. I haven't encountered him personally, but my mom has had some interactions with him. I've always enjoyed his appearances on Real Time with Bill Maher. It's being reported he was stabbed in the neck. Doesn't sound good. I hope he makes it and has a full recovery, but I'm not all that confident of it...

One could rightly say that the Quran provokes a lot of Muslims and non-Muslims into disliking each other. Ofcourse you could say this of some other religious texts too.

There's a lot of Muslim preachers / leaders who say shit that would piss off non-Muslims, but you don't heart about fatwas and non-Muslims trying to kill them.
