Elections RFK Selected as United States Secretary of Health and Human Services

The Department of Transportation could do wonders for the health of Americans by getting us not having to drive cars as much. Since you mentioned other Countries. Made me think of how many places bike and walk FAR more than we do on average.

You have to remember though, the countries you are thinking about are much fucking smaller than the USA and our cities are nowhere near as big, by and large. Here in Cardiff, Wales, biking and walking to and from work is common but its a fucking tiny city and even this causes issues - a good few of my colleagues are complaining about 'classism' because our employer has cut car parking spaces to encourage biking/walking.

Good idea, yeah? Well, for someone like me who lives a 20min walk away and doesn't drive anyway, it's great. But for those lower earners who live in towns/villages outside of the city, they feel that the employer is assuming everyone has the money to get a big, expensive city centre house within biking distance. I do see their point to be honest.

You'd have to overhaul the entire urban architecture. Fun fact, lack of walking is probably a big part of North Americans being fat. Some research suggests that exercising makes you hungrier but movement (NEAT) does not. Meaning if someone walks to work every day they're burning calories but not necessarily feeling hungrier at lunch. However if you had the typical 'Murkan lifestyle of sitting on your ass all day, driving everywhere, and then pulling up to the gym and doing some sets, you're burning some calories but paying for it with extra hunger and it's not really compensating for the poor baseline NEAT. Although the actual typical person isn't even doing that last step (the gym) so it's bad all around.

This is why I am a big fan of the Strong Towns movement. Their major concerns are economics and sustainability. But better health is a happy side-effect. There's a "strong town" not far from me named Boulder City. Even the suburban area there is so small it's a pain in the @ss to drive anywhere. This is a real estate ad for it:

We attend their Christmas parade every year and last year we parked on a big hill overlooking the lake that seemed far from the goings-on, but it was only a 10 minute walk, downhill. On the other side of the town is a famous Christmas house we visit:

That's only like a 7 minute walk the other way. Plus the kids get bored of the parade and chase each other around in one of the 2 parks along Main St.

So aside from having a wholesome small town good time, you get a lot of unintended exercise and if you try to avoid it by driving, it takes 3x as long to get done.

Yea, you aren't building shit for bikers in eastern Kentucky.

Unless they all get on the Lance Armstrong tour de France diet of epo, test, and God knows what else.

We'd have more bearded ladies than a Rudy Giuliani birthday bash

I'm not saying some people won't NEED cars, some will. I train a lot of Norwegians, to live in Oslo a car is an unnecessary expense most of the time. But one of them who lived outside the City needed his car for the commute. Until recently, where he moved to Oslo and got rid of the car.

What I'm saying is City design sucks and is car-dependent. Big box stores and minimum parking requirements kill us and make sure we spend way more time in cars (sitting) than we should. A grocery store trip here often means you spend more time in the car than you do shopping. Hence, sedentary lifestyle. Smarter and better city design can change that regardless of the size of the Country as a whole.

I honestly feel bad for you because wow, what a shitshow. At least maybe there will be some sort of catharsis now that Trump and Co. control the House, Senate, Presidency and SCOTUS. But, considering how the American public seem to vote against their own interests, don't care about policies and revel in idolatry, I have my doubts. Guess we'll see. At the end of the day things will probably be alright either way, wish you the best man.

There's already buyer's remorse, even from Brogan. That's a good sign. But yeah we are about to be f*cked up for a minimum of 4 years. And whether or not we can ever meaningfully vote again is anyone's guess as there are people who are going to be given power who absolutely loathe that idea. We'll have to see what happens.

what more do you want?

One of them is a pediatrician and Ivy League educated professor on the subject of health and wellness, the other one is missing portions of their brains from worm rot.
Part of it is all the fb news etc where peeps get stirred up and form an opinion. Folks will reach for anything imo especially if its attached to conspiracy. I'm good with evaluating preservatives in childhood vaccines but after that's done then it's done. In the days of the internet peeps get too far removed from real science and become free to chase this type of thing.

Depends on the quality of the study, IMO. What we have in the US are epidemiological studies doing after-the-fact research. These types of studies are always burdened by confounding factors, and thus never appropriate to use when looking for causal associations.

Did you know that senior researcher on a major CDC study claiming no vaccine/autism association claimed that damning study data was thrown out AFTER an association between vaccine/autism was found?

Did you know that a government expert doctor who was supposed to testify about no vaccine/autism link reversed course and now says that there IS an association with some kids?

Also, there ARE studies that indicate an association between vaccination and autism (not that they don’t also have flaws) and the then head of CDC also conceded an association between vaccination and autism like illness (vaccine court has paid these cases out as well).

The whole “vaccines don’t cause autism and you’re a loon for being concerned” tact is not working, and people are right to ask questions and demand answers.

No one cares where an individual went to college if that individual is clearly both mentally ill, and mentally retarded.
The fucking guy is morbidly obese and thinks he’s a woman.
Literally not one syllable that comes from his mouth is taken seriously by a single person on planet Earth.

That too has been done to death. Study after study shows thimerosal is safe when used to preserve children’s vaccines.
But then that becomes a conspiracy paid for by drug companies... the anti-vaxxer will make it so they never have to accept reality. Just keep their own small circle of people chatting on it non-stop.
