The reality is any nation has rules and can be perceived as oppressive to a certain cohort. The US´s best years were sometime bewteen 1776 till 1970 (likely 1820s to 1861 and then 1920s till 1961 arguably, but a lot of that time some people were oppressed. Then even after slavery was lifted and women could vote there is allegations some were oppressed and ´´muuh patriarchy and white supremacy´´
