Pit bull attacked my dog

See... here's the thing. If another dog got in my yard.... My Austrailian Shepherd would just play with it.

I have had two. They absolutely love people and other dogs, cats etc. I would put a baby's head in their mouth that's how easy going they are. I have watched baby's crawl all over them and dress them up and they love it. I had a German Shepherd as well but I did not trust it with little kids or other animals. It was a nervous dog, so I would always have to watch it.

There are breeds that have little to no aggression in them. Pitbulls aren't one of them. Sure they may do well with people, but they do not seem to like other animals. Not a good thing when you are in the burbs or a city where there is a high chance of them coming accross someone elses pet.

My Aussie/Sheltie is the same way. Another dog could be teeth showing growling at him and Rufus will go and try to sniff the other dog's ass and then want to wrestle. The only time the "big boy bark" comes out when when it's late a night and he hears something coming for the door.

My Aussie/Sheltie is the same way. Another dog could be teeth showing growling at him and Rufus will go and try to sniff the other dog's ass and then want to wrestle. The only time the "big boy bark" comes out when when it's late a night and he hears something coming for the door.

Same thing happened to my dog last yr. I was walking her and a pit broke though its fence and bit my dog in the ass, the chain broke free and i was able to get my dog free by whipping the pit in the face with the leash and collar and my dog was able to run home. I call animal control and while waiting the dog tried to attack another guy's dog who was walking by but I was able to warn him and he was able to get his dog away. The Pit was not attacking people but just going after other dogs.

Animal control took it away for the the night and the owners it bavk the next day. A few months later it got out again and killed a little dog. They put it down after that and the owner got a fine. I think the owner of the little dog was also going sue them but not sure if he did.

But it was one of the scariest thing ever happen to me. I didn't get bit and the pit never got mean with me but i saw the viciousness that thing when it went after my dog and I don't ever want to be attacked by one.

I know my dog is aggressive toward other big dogs. I would be super pissed off if he attacked another one and the owner kicked him or stabbed him.

Luckily this is easily preventable by keeping him on his leash.

Australian Shepherds are a great dog, but the one I had growing up had some aggression in it. Just saying all dogs are capable of unpredictability. Ours had some issue with people in baseball hats that would set it off, and it would go on the attack. Nobody was ever hurt, but you had to keep an eye on it. Admittedly, that is very rare for that breed, and I'd get one again in a heartbeat. Gorgeous dogs too.

It's a shame with pitbulls that the main issue is the "tough guy dog" mentality, that attracts morons for owners to get a dog that should only ever have a highly responsible owner. But you'll never separate pitbulls from that culture now, so they're damned to be in more rap videos, and more trailer trash backyards. It's a shame, but it is what it is.

My one that passed at 10 was for the first three years and then then slowed down pretty good, but we always took him for like 5km walks every day so that kept him pretty normal. My new one is a pup, so he's still crazy high energy. We pretty much got something that was a clone of our old one because it was such a great dog. So far it seems to have the exact same traits. Great with kids and other dogs, doesn't bark, loves everyone.

I've had dogs all my life. A mutt, a toy beagle, a Siberian Huskie, 2 Aussies, and a King German Shepherd. The German and Siberian were females, rest were males. Male dogs are much smarter from my experience.

The mutt was great, the beagle was a pig who would drool while you were eating, and would eat till it puked if you let it. Crazy funny and sweet but did not like other dogs. Siberian basically killed itself by eating everthing. Anything it saw it would swallow. Stupid dog. The German was a good dog for my family but was nervous around other people and dogs. It was the biggest wuss ever. Not too bright either. A nervous dog is not a good thing. Especially when it's over 100lbs.

Was yours a blue merle? Mine were Brown's... they seem different for some reason. My brother in law had a blue from the same breeder and it was a little more high energy and high strung....

just few months ago my neighbors dog(large boxer) got lose and chased my wife and small sheltie back into the house. luckily they were close to the door. i figured id walk over and knock on my neighbors door to let him know his dog is lose. the moment i step off my own front step the dog sprints over and confronts me. barking, snarling and kicking up dirt like a charging bull. i slowly backed up into the house and instead drove over to his house and honked the horn. neighbor is holding a hammer and a few pieces of wood "oh yea my kid accidentally left the gate open". yet hes holding materials to mend a broken fence and his other dog is still in the fence. he is yelled at the boxer as it runs around like a maniac avoiding him. he finally gets it back in the fence. shit was super scary and it leaves me paranoid about having my wife or myself outside with or without the dog. plus the aggressive barking anytime they see us outside is annoying. fuck those dogs

Ours was a tri-coloured... so it was mostly black with white and brown spots. It was for the most part a great family dog, so I don't mean to paint the breed in a bad light, but it definitely needed a watchful owner. This dog just had its quirks I guess.

Also that facebook picture looks nothing like a pit. Did the ladies(owner) say that's what the dog was or did the people just decide to label it that. I say this because I often see the "pitbull attacks such and whatnot" and I want to say the majority of the time the picture of the dog actually looks nothing like an apbt.

Also to your why can't people just get labs. I don't know where people get the idea of thinking that a Lab which is larger than a Pit btw is somehow less dangerous. Any large dog that is untrained poses a serious threat to others and other people's dogs. Example of athleticism, Labs are the dogs that do that long jump deal 20+ feet into water . They are big powerful dogs and I've come across some mean fuckers that could definitely tear into you. Any dog that is not socialized and somewhat trained usually ends up being mean regardless of breed.

So you don't agree that pit bulls are more dog aggressive than most other breeds? Because that's a pretty well known characteristic and something that is usually stressed. You do realize that certain breeds were designed to do certain things well and pit bulls were made to kill other dogs. Not so much labs. Please don't compare the two.

Well said. People get Pits as a status symbol to perpetuate a tough guy image and don't train the dog properly.

Coincidentally today, I was talking about pit bulls with my friends because i saw a PSA on facebook (pic below), about how dangerous it is for people who dont have years of experience training dogs to have a pit bull, or a pit bull mix, like the one in the story.

Well I got home tonight and was walking my dog past a park. I heard "NO STOP" I turned and a huge (what looked like) staffordshire bull terrier was sprinting dead on for my husky. unfortunately i was on the wrong side, so it jumped and bit my dog in the side. My dog is a lean 65 lbs, with a loose double layer coat and quick so she shook it free before it could get a clean bite. She yelped loud, and the pit growled and came in from the other side, i was in between and low kicked it as hard as i could in the side. It knocked it a few feet back, but it came in teeth gnashing AGAIN. I kicked it a second time knocking it away, i glanced to the owner and it was a scared looking skinny guy just staring. the dog came in a third time for my dog, and i kicked it a third time, but this time i landed full shin on its head. I was somehow incredibly lucky that i caught it on its cheek rather than its teeth and it got knocked to the ground. by that point the owner was able to get over and grab its collar

i got the owners information and looked my dog over and she was fine, the pit barely broke the skin. i am just so grateful that it was me and my big husky that was there, if it was my fiance walking my dog or if my dog was too small to shake it off the first time, there is no way it couldve been pulled off. I'm not bragging, there are tons of people on here who could probably kick my ass, but just putting it into context, i have trained a few years and done a few thousand low kicks. if it took a 200+ lb trained person THREE KICKS to deter this dog, imagine if it was an average untrained person trying to get it away. imagine if it was a 10 year old kid and he got in between the pit and his dog

I got the guys phone number (and called him to make sure it was his number because of the story below), and saw his ID, so I called animal control.

IF YOU CANNOT TRAIN A DOG TO STOP OR COME BACK IMMEDIATELY THE FIRST TIME YOU CALL IT, DONT GET A PIT BULL

I'm glad the dog was ok, but your expectation for years of dog training is just stupid. Keep it on a leash and keep it under control. That's it. A guy I know has one of the meanest pits I've ever seen. He knows that though and keeps a choker on the dog. It doesn't take years of experience to keep a dog on a leash

His dog would likely kill another dog if it had the chance, but the owner is extremely responsible and makes sure his dog never gets the chance to even sniff another dog.

He got the dog from a shelter. It was forced to be a fighting dog, neglected and abandoned.

Any dog that bites a human or attacks another dog needs to be put down, regardless of breed or damage done.
