Pit bull attacked my dog

Good for you ts. Hopefully that idiot of an owner figures his shit out or gives it to a shelter group before he is forced to put the dog down.

Also that facebook picture looks nothing like a pit. Did the ladies(owner) say that's what the dog was or did the people just decide to label it that. I say this because I often see the "pitbull attacks such and whatnot" and I want to say the majority of the time the picture of the dog actually looks nothing like an apbt.

Also to your why can't people just get labs. I don't know where people get the idea of thinking that a Lab which is larger than a Pit btw is somehow less dangerous. Any large dog that is untrained poses a serious threat to others and other people's dogs. Example of athleticism, Labs are the dogs that do that long jump deal 20+ feet into water . They are big powerful dogs and I've come across some mean fuckers that could definitely tear into you. Any dog that is not socialized and somewhat trained usually ends up being mean regardless of breed.

I'm sure this thread will end up being a shit show in no time.

glad your dog is ok and that you were able to defend it.

that girl that posted that fb post is a babe. im going to stalk her online now.

my standard schnauzer is round 44lbs and i am not quite the kicker you are. so i dont now if my dog would have been unscathed or not. i would have probably taken the bowie knife out of the strap on my belt that i have on me at all times and just fended it off or pried open its teeth or tapped it sternly on the head with the handle and said 'stop that right now, stop attacking my dog'.

Another thing people need to keep in mind is that if you can't control your dog, don't let it run off leash. My dog has been attacked a few times now by dogs who were off leash and their owners had absolutely no control over their dog.

One time an off-leash dog attacked my leashed dog and I kicked the attacking dog a few times until it ran away. I screamed at the lady and she responded by saying "I didn't attack your dog." I yelled back "that may be, but you are in charge of that dog and ultimately responsible for it's actions. If you can't control your dog don't let it off leash." She ended up crying and walking away.

boom. totally agree. how simple of a dog owning personal rule is it?

I'm glad the dog was ok, but your expectation for years of dog training is just stupid. Keep it on a leash and keep it under control. That's it. A guy I know has one of the meanest pits I've ever seen. He knows that though and keeps a choker on the dog. It doesn't take years of experience to keep a dog on a leash

Coincidentally today, I was talking about pit bulls with my friends because i saw a PSA on facebook (pic below), about how dangerous it is for people who dont have years of experience training dogs to have a pit bull, or a pit bull mix, like the one in the story.

Well I got home tonight and was walking my dog past a park. I heard "NO STOP" I turned and a huge (what looked like) staffordshire bull terrier was sprinting dead on for my husky. unfortunately i was on the wrong side, so it jumped and bit my dog in the side. My dog is a lean 65 lbs, with a loose double layer coat and quick so she shook it free before it could get a clean bite. She yelped loud, and the pit growled and came in from the other side, i was in between and low kicked it as hard as i could in the side. It knocked it a few feet back, but it came in teeth gnashing AGAIN. I kicked it a second time knocking it away, i glanced to the owner and it was a scared looking skinny guy just staring. the dog came in a third time for my dog, and i kicked it a third time, but this time i landed full shin on its head. I was somehow incredibly lucky that i caught it on its cheek rather than its teeth and it got knocked to the ground. by that point the owner was able to get over and grab its collar

i got the owners information and looked my dog over and she was fine, the pit barely broke the skin. i am just so grateful that it was me and my big husky that was there, if it was my fiance walking my dog or if my dog was too small to shake it off the first time, there is no way it couldve been pulled off. I'm not bragging, there are tons of people on here who could probably kick my ass, but just putting it into context, i have trained a few years and done a few thousand low kicks. if it took a 200+ lb trained person THREE KICKS to deter this dog, imagine if it was an average untrained person trying to get it away. imagine if it was a 10 year old kid and he got in between the pit and his dog

I got the guys phone number (and called him to make sure it was his number because of the story below), and saw his ID, so I called animal control.

but seriously IF YOU DO NOT HAVE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE TRAINING DOGS, DO NOT GET A PIT BULL

IF YOU CANNOT TRAIN A DOG TO STOP OR COME BACK IMMEDIATELY THE FIRST TIME YOU CALL IT, DONT GET A PIT BULL

why cant people just get a fucking lab

pic related, the story i saw earlier today

Seen you support pitbulls in the other thread.
Now have you seen the light?

Sounds like a weak owner was the main problem.

sure big dogs will relatively have more power and ofcourse any dog can be mean. but more then that i think the history, personality and breed specific traits play a big part in a dogs general behaviour. pits were bred for fighting with other dogs and other animals such as bear-baiting back in the day. labs were used for retrieving and hunting and now most commonly they are assistance dogs.

Fuck pit bulls.

To go along with the TS PSA, I was walking my daughters home from school and some girl about 10 was walking home with her sisters. For some reason she had their pit bull puppy. He wasnt full grown but wasnt that small. That dog was dragging her all over the place. It started jumping on some 8 year old boy from my daughter's class. It nipped at his arm. From my viewpoint it looked like a harmless, playful nip. The boy stopped and started crying. I stopped to check on him. This was in the winter and he had a thick winter jacket on. I looked at his arm and it was bleeding and bruised. I told the little girl that she shouldnt be walking that dog. I had a sit and stand stroller since I had my 3 year old, and took the little boy home on the stroller. Unfortunately, over a year later, I recently saw that same girl walking the now full grown pit bull home from school. Her parents must be complete idiots.

Pit bulls are not bad dogs, it was the owner who was a bad owner

I hope your just making fun of the generic statement some people use and not making it yourself.

Pits are predisposed to violence considerably more than other breeds.
Even if the owner is good pits have a tendency to attack relentlessly when they go on the offense.

Stopping one of them is very difficult.

They have their place.

Kept in a yard with space.chaining dogs too long makes them more aggressive.
Owned by a person who's single and wants a good guard dog.

It's appropriate in thede situations .

Pit bull owners are as stupid as can be imo. You CAN'T convince them it's risky.

"oh I've had a pitbull for 27 years, he's been around my children, would never harm a fly "

Until something triggers an attack one day and well...

If the cops are called always say that you feared for your safety and not that of your pets. You're fully within your rights to reasonably defend yourself from any animal, no matter what the other owner says.

Any large untrained dog can pull a child around. Has nothing to do with the breed. What point are you trying to make?

There is stupid on both sides of the fence. It's just as stupid to say all pit bulls are bloodthirsty warmongers, but it doesn't stop you yards from doing so

I said in my other post that they are more predisposed to violence hence not suitable as family dogs.

I'm not saying there aren't families who have had pits without an issue.

There are, but it isn't worth it.

They are NOT more predisposed to violence. I won't allow you to make up lies to support your bullshit. The "family breeds" are more predisposed to violence, a pit bull is more CAPABLE. Put bulls are known to have good temperament around people and bite less often then other breeds.

With proper handling a pit is a GREAT dog.

a few months ago a rottweiler from a farm nearby scaped and killed our neighbour's 3 ponies. I would have shot that fucking thing had I been around. shittiest people often own the most dangerous dogs and don't take the safety measures they should.

This. I love pit bulls but I won't pretend they aren't capable of violence. Much the opposite they are extremely capable. This means one must take the necessary precautions. Unfortunately for the beautiful animals, often times they attract shitty owners who don't give a shit and they end up mauling people or being unruly.

A buddy of mine saved a pit from a family we know. Their 13 yo son got between the pit and another dog "fighting" for a toy and lost his finger. They were going to out it down, but my buddy saved it and raised it in Colorado. It's a fucking AMAZING dog. Never seen it's equal in temperament.

It all depends on the owner, their risk assessment, and diligence.
