Pit bull attacked my dog

TS admittedly doesn't know what breed attacked his dog. Calls it a "Pitbull" and people are outraged, sounds about right.

Some information for persons with a critical mind to consider.

The term pit bull is often used loosely to describe dogs with similar physical characteristics, and the morphological (physical) variation amongst "bully breed" dogs makes it difficult for anyone, even experts, to visually identify them as distinct from "non-pit bulls".[5][6][7] While mixed breed dogs are often labeled as "pit bulls" if they have certain physical characteristics such as a square shaped head or bulky body type,[8] visual identification of mixed breed dogs is not recommended by the scholarly community.[5]

Two pit bulls attacked my sisters Boston Terrier a year ago when my mother was babysitting the dog for her. Took the dog for a walk and two pits got out of the yard and ran at Cash, nearly bit him until my mom picked up him up. Mom was bit on the arm, the two pits jumped up and started trying to bite the dog and my mother. Luckily a neighbor saw this, came out and hit both dogs with a broom handle a few times, dogs ran off.

Needless to say the dogs owner blamed us for what happened.

Too bad they didn't eat him up.
Shit would have been so Cash :icon_chee

Sorry,

I've never owned a dog before, but is it normal that when your dog gets injured you treat it like a car accident exchanging info, etc?

Yes to make the owner of the attacking dog pay for all vet bills.

As to the op this is why I carry a gun (and spray to try first) most of the time when walking my dogs.

I love dogs but especially mine and will l do whatever is needed to protect them and also myself/wife.

Having to shoot a dog because of a shit head owner would piss me off to no end at the owner.

I'd be calling animal control, making a complaint and trying to get that dog euthanized if it attacked my dogs.

I used to have a doberman and was involved in a fair number of incidents with morons who didn't keep there mutts under control. I always made sure he was on his leash when I saw other dogs coming but unfortunately a lot of muppets just don't bother their arse. It usually went down the same way every time, random moron's dog off the leash, tries to have a pop at my boy, then when my boy gets a hold of their mutt and starts rag-dolling it the moron gets upset. Get your dog on a leash then half-wit and it wouldn't come to this!

sorry to hear ts. glad you and your dog came out ok

sometimes i wish that a license were required to have certain animals, pits and like-breeds included. and especially for dogs over a certain weight and that are taken outdoors. right now, too many low-class retards get their hands on them and haven't the first clue as to how to manage them. and many get them specifically because of their image. pretty sickening and revolting

and as an avid runner, i can say ive gotten sick of dogs off leashes and stupid fuck owners oblivious/powerless to control their poorly/untrained animals. glad im on the up and up when it comes to e.d.c.

Sounds like a weak owner was the main problem.

Combination of a weak owner and a powerful/aggressive dog--it takes both variables to create the problem.

If you're going to regulate one of these things, it makes sense to focus on the dog, as testing for "good owners" is too subjective.

But it should be noted that even with the best owners, a dog still may be "act out" once or twice in it's life (due to youth or illness). So even a good owner with a big/aggressive dog presents some danger to society, whereas a bad owner with a small/unaggressive dog does not present any threat. This is another reason to focus on the dog in these situtations.

I've got a rage inducing story for you then.

last summer I met a buddy after work one day to do a few laps around a local park. We finish running and are standing around the parking lot shooting the shit and this old man comes ambling up the sidewalk....you know that
shuffling and unsteady old man walk . Anyway this young couple and their probably year old I'll mannered full grown golden walk up at the same time , and the dog is one of those hyper jump on you types. Well the dog buzzes the old man and almost knocks him over , I'm standing there think " alright douche grab your dog" .......and nothing . It's like they thinks it's funny or cute or something , dog did it again and the old man is just frozen and trying his best not to hit the pavement . Had to yell at him to control his fucking dog before it dawned on this idiot that his dog was a menace, Completely oblivious .

ive been attacked while on walks 3 times the last 5 years by retarded fucking swagboys and girls with their ghey ass pit bull making up for their tinydicks and rotten vaginas.

You need to carry a knife and drive it into the pit.
No dog that seriously attacks a human should be allowed to live imo.

And that's the problem.
Chihuahua's bite but can't do much damage.

These on the other hand...

My guys don't even bark when someone comes to the door. And when someone does come in even that they don't know they roll over and are like "rub my belly!"

Worst guard dogs ever, but that's not what I have them for.

hahahaha. that last sentence is great.

i got a standard schnauzer and he looses his shit when people initially come in, but then i tell him its ok, and he has to be around them a few minutes then he unwinds and becomes relaxed.

i like it like that where he is only calm once i show him there is no immediate threat or anything that he has to be phased about. if someone came into the house when i was not home i do not know what my dog would do. i dont think he would bite them at all, he has never bitten anyone except for me when he was teething as a puppy. but he would certainly scare the person out.

I'm an owner of 3 pits. They are the best family breed I've owned, but will readily admit taking them in public is like preparing to go out with my pistol. Gotta follow all safety procedures. To avoid the hassle I just keep them on property in a fenced in yard. When it's vet time, we stay in the car until they are ready to go directly into the exam room. And even then I have the wife scout ahead to make sure the walkways are clear.

What's sad is that my dogs are social as hell, but I just can't risk it knowing the breed. Why do I keep them you ask. Like I said, they have a better temperment score than a lot of so called "family dogs". So as a family pet, they are worth the effort personally.

I'll agree that there are too many betas owning an alpha breed, but there is definitely some blatant bullshit being spewed up in this thread.

bullshit aside the rise in ownership has skyrocketed the last few years. I thought it was an early 2000's trend that would die out soon enough, but it continues to get exponentially worse.

Overbreeding and too many shelters trying to save every last dog. I love my dogs to death and would harm anyone that tried to hurt them, but even I admit the herd should be thinned. I'm an enthusiast, not a zealot.
