LOL at singling out pitbulls. Fuck me. How about don't get any dangerous large bread dogs if you are not prepared to properly train it/have it properly trained.

How about don't take your dog, of any size, in public unless it is properly trained.

You don't think a Rottweiler could and would fuck you up? How about a German Shepard, a doberman, etc...

It's not just pits. We need some kind of system in place where owning one of these dogs is not a fucking right, but a privilege.

We need a system in place to keep stupid people out of society in general. Give them a few states and they can tailgate people in a traffic jam and buy dogs they cant be bothered to train, and sit at a McDonald's drive thru for ten minutes making up their mind on a menu that basically doesn't change until their hearts are content. Eventually the problem will solve itself when the dogs do some Planet of the Apes shit and take over!

It wouldnt be that hard. They can make the dog owners carry a certified license at all times that says theyve pass some kind of course that the know how to handle the dog.

Coincidentally today, I was talking about pit bulls with my friends because i saw a PSA on facebook (pic below), about how dangerous it is for people who dont have years of experience training dogs to have a pit bull, or a pit bull mix, like the one in the story.

Well I got home tonight and was walking my dog past a park. I heard "NO STOP" I turned and a huge (what looked like) staffordshire bull terrier was sprinting dead on for my husky. unfortunately i was on the wrong side, so it jumped and bit my dog in the side. My dog is a lean 65 lbs, with a loose double layer coat and quick so she shook it free before it could get a clean bite. She yelped loud, and the pit growled and came in from the other side, i was in between and low kicked it as hard as i could in the side. It knocked it a few feet back, but it came in teeth gnashing AGAIN. I kicked it a second time knocking it away, i glanced to the owner and it was a scared looking skinny guy just staring. the dog came in a third time for my dog, and i kicked it a third time, but this time i landed full shin on its head. I was somehow incredibly lucky that i caught it on its cheek rather than its teeth and it got knocked to the ground. by that point the owner was able to get over and grab its collar

i got the owners information and looked my dog over and she was fine, the pit barely broke the skin. i am just so grateful that it was me and my big husky that was there, if it was my fiance walking my dog or if my dog was too small to shake it off the first time, there is no way it couldve been pulled off. I'm not bragging, there are tons of people on here who could probably kick my ass, but just putting it into context, i have trained a few years and done a few thousand low kicks. if it took a 200+ lb trained person THREE KICKS to deter this dog, imagine if it was an average untrained person trying to get it away. imagine if it was a 10 year old kid and he got in between the pit and his dog

I got the guys phone number (and called him to make sure it was his number because of the story below), and saw his ID, so I called animal control.

but seriously IF YOU DO NOT HAVE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE TRAINING DOGS, DO NOT GET A PIT BULL

IF YOU CANNOT TRAIN A DOG TO STOP OR COME BACK IMMEDIATELY THE FIRST TIME YOU CALL IT, DONT GET A PIT BULL

why cant people just get a fucking lab

pic related, the story i saw earlier today

Respect dude.

idiot people have decided that pits are the breed to get so the stats point to pits being bad but its misleading. the breed is absolutely fine. Be careful with them, but I would say that about any dog.

I would be light years more afraid of a rottie or Shepard in the same situation...only thing is...these clown-ass swag douchebags only go for the pits.

if you have a busy life don't get a dog is my advice, especially when its developing. Dogs take all day attention from 0-3 to turn out well. The problem is pitbull owners are almost always shallow image focused club scene dick heads who only spend time with their dog on the odd weekend when its time to show it off.

no one is saying that other dogs don't bite people and other dogs. however pit bulls make more of a mess!
i'm sure all the pit bulls that have maimed or killed, were little angels at one stage of their life when in a human family. thats the point.

i sometimes look at the rspca dog shelter, and there are ALWAYS more pit bulls and pit bull mixes up for adoption than any other breed.
there is no need for backyard breeders of animals. we won't run out of dogs one day, or cats!
i was walking my great dane one day when a yobbo in a ute pulled up and asked if i'd be interested in letting his male dog mate with my dog.
a bit odd, i thought. he then explained he does a lot of pig-hunting, and a dog with dane mixed in would make an excellent dog for that type of thing.
i told him that she'd been spayed.[she hadn't really!]

Reporting and identification is flawed. DNA and/or documentation is the only way to know the breed. Shelters fail at identification.

What it comes down to is public perception and the public is stupid.

Out of Rotties, Shepards, etc... Pitts have the weakest bite and smallest mouth. I would much rather get bitten by a pit bull than a full sized GS, rottie, etc...

And Rotties are over the fucking top aggressive, more so than a PB.

I have had nothing but positive experiences with pitbulls. Its not the breed, its the owner. I live in Canada and pitbulls are not rearly has popular but there was a couple in my town. At the time I owned a silky terrier (13 pound rat) and one of the pitbulls was the nicest dogs in the world. It was actually one of the key reasons why my dog was so good around other dogs, it taught my dog. Eventually that pitbull passed away and my silky terrier ended up getting attacked by a German shepherd with an owner that never really took care of it or gave it any real attention ( kept it locked in a 10x10 cage outside most its life). The guy was really nice but he had no right owning a dog if he isn't going to properly train it or give it the attention it deserves. It took 5+ years for my dog to ever trust other dogs again and a lot of training because it became a rage case everytime a dog got close to it, and a 13 pound rage case will usually end up getting itself killed if it ever crossed the wrong dog.

Long story short, its the owner not the dog.

I agree with the pressure of the bite...I would probably choose a pit too because of the weight of the dog..But the issue is that Pits don't let go no matter what. And the amount of unruly Pits is 100 to 1 with other breeds because Pit Bull owners are overwhelmingly douche nozzels.

Pit bulls can in theory be trained well but the catch 22 is the usual people who think having pit bulls are cool tend to be the knuckledragging types incapable of training the dogs. The type of people who think wearing Tap Out shirts are bad ass and having a pit bull because he looks bad ass also are the main problem of pit bulls.

And even if they're for the most part able to be trained properly that's still only 1 out of say 10 pit bulls that aren't a potential hazard to some innocent person. Why try to turn a pit bull that's realistically not meant to be a pet into a pet when there is so many other breeds so much easier to train for that same role?

I have a bunch of buddies with Pitbulls. Probably the nicest and friendliest dogs I know. But I'm sure they kill kids in their spare time when nobody is looking

All that proves is that your buddies are really good with dogs. But pit bulls were bread specifically to be vicious. Just like Norwich Terriers were bread to hunt vermin. While it's true that pits are capable of being well behaved dogs, they are fiercely determined and rather large, which makes them dangerous. Especially in the wrong hands. And more so than other dogs.

"In the United Kingdom, these dogs were used in blood sports such as bull-baiting, bear-baiting and **** fighting." - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pit_bull

This means that the ones who weren't so good at fighting got killed, and their genetic traits along with them, leaving those that were killers to reproduce. It's common fucking sense for anyone who studied even high school biology and Mendel's peas. Of course, if you don't believe in science, I don't really know what to tell you.

That's a close call ts, u handled it well. I have 2 dogs that i walk all the time and a couple times some off_leash shit bags ran up on us and it almost got ugly. I was about to steal toe this mutt but luckily he stopped short of us.

Few years back my boxer had the tip of her ear bit off playing at the dog park. Owner must have witnessed it cause she took right off before i noticed. Spent 500 to fix her ear...fkn scumbag owners!

If a dog so much as threatens/approaches you, you should be steel toeing it's ass.

If it actually gets a hold of your leg then not only will you not be able to kick it you'll be in big trouble period.

This is one of the weird things about dogs that I've seen a ton of times. They'll run at you full boar and then stop right before your in reach of kicking their head in.

I remember me and mom were walking back home in Massachusetts and these two pitts came running out of this guys house and he already had the fence open. He tried to call them back but of course they didn't listen. My mom put her hand in front of me and kind of moved me back (I was 12-13 at the time) while she stood her ground and talked nonstop shit to the owner and the dogs. I was positive the dogs were going to tackle her ass but they stopped just short of reaching and her and just barked.

Just like chasing a car, what's the dog going to do after catching it?

Ultimately these aggressive dogs have this hunting /fighting aggression that's been bred into them.

If they've been a bit socialized and trained they will refrain from biting perhaps but some will still do that as well depending on how much of an asshole they are 😅
