Pimblett beats Topuria to a pulp

I truly believe that Paddy is going to beat Ilia at every aspect of mma. He will beat Ilia on feet. Hes not going to stand infront of him and just let Ilia punch him repeadedly on face. He will manage distance perfecly and use his lenght to make Ilia hesitate. Wrestling and ground game is Paddys bread and butter and much smaller Ilia doesn’t stand a chance when fight takes place on mat. Oliveira was tailored match up for Ilia but Paddy is different. Hes huge, young and resilient.

what else can he do when their striking is mountains apart?

Ilia is employing intricate slipping and weaving maneuvers and Paddy barely knows about the concept of head movement.

only advantage Paddy will have is raw frame and size. it might make a difference in grappling and he'll have to avoid Ilia's extremely accurate and powerful blitzes.

Ilia is so much more alpha than Paddy.

Double-champ. 2 years younger than Paddy. No losses. Massive aura. He just makes Paddy look like an underachiever.

If Paddy could employ his 28% takedown rate and 42% striking defense against Topuria's 93% takedown defense without dying to an uppercut I'd be shocked.

I would favor Paddy over Gaethje, but not Ilia.

Different fighters with different strengths and weaknesses, but I think in the end same outcome.

I can’t imagine Ilia having an easy time with Paddy against the cage and if he gets on top. Much heavier and bigger man with a grappling advantage

This is actually a praise to Paddy.
nobody gets it yet

Paddy doesn't get rocked and DROWNS guys with bjj.

Paddy isn't the favorite in this fight but he has a really good chance if he follows the right gameplan. which he usually does

Sure. But what I was saying was we don't even know if he can take a punch. So how does anyone feel confident that he'll be successful against Ilia?

I agree to an extent on that I think that Paddy could test Ilia in the grappling realm moreso than anywhere else and that would be his best hope. I've spoken highly of Pimblett's ground game before, but he isn't untouchable there. Paddy was losing the grappling exchanges to a very shopworn Chandler in Rd 1. Leavitt also had some success against him. Assuming Paddy gets dominant positions on Ilia in the first place is a big "if".

Ultimately what it comes down to is that I feel the disparity between the two mens' striking (in terms of respective skill set and danger level presented) is way more apparent and readily exploitable by Ilia than the physicality & grappling disparity is by Paddy.

Conversely, with Gaethje I think it looks sort of like the Oliveira fight. Justin cracks Paddy a few times, but Pimblett survives and at some point forces a scramble that ends with him choking Gaethje. It would be a good win for Paddy and a solid step up, but Justin's submission defense is historically iffy so it wouldn't be proof positive to me that he's the man to beat a slicker boxer and superior technical grappler in Topuria.

It is what it is.

Kick from the outside. Get takedown. Be big and elbow + sub. Same gameplan as vs Chandler. I am not sold on Topurias grappling, he looked in danger vs Olives. He is small, Paddy is huge for lw. Ilias boxing is elite. Paddy can't box with Ilia, but can breath underneath Paddy.

Do you recall Paddy losing to a bum and being gifted a decision just a few fights ago?

I think the sloppy unpredictable pace that Paddy’s brings is the hardest puzzle to solve. His size like DDP and awkwardness will be more difficult for someone like Topuria to figure out than a traditional striker

Just like Oliveira tore him a new one, right OP?
You mean the same Oliveria that was champion? The same one who went ona legendary run that will put him in the UFC Hall of Fame? The same Oliveria that everyone knows has way more ground and stand up skills than Paddy?

The same one that got shadow realmed by little Topuira

Pimblet last 3 opponents combined are on a 13 fight loss streak. Unless it's a buffet or a washed up hasbeen, Paddy isn't beating anything

he took a pretty solid haymaker from Chandler and ate it like a tic tac

He has none of those skills though.
