Honestly Paddy deserved it more than Olivera

Paddy's best win is over a 38-year-old with 15 losses whose only non-embarrassing recent fight (even signing to fight the corpses of Ferguson or Jim Miller is embarrassing) was a win over the legendary Grant Dawson. If Paddy deserves a title shot then half of the roster with at least three UFC fights that's coming off a win deserves a title shot. Paddy's faced a schedule softer than the explosive diarrhea he always suffers after eating a gallon tub of ice cream when weigh-ins are over.

Hate it or not, not only did Olivera "earn" a shot off of beating Chandler worse than Paddy, but Paddy is 6-0 while Olivera is 3-3 in the last 3 years. Since losing to Islam, Olivera only beat 2 guys who are probably retiring soon. Paddy actually has the best record since 2022 in the whole division and undefeated. If you ignore the guys who failed all their titleshots or retiring soon, then it's just Paddy or Arman that really deserve the title shot.

Oliveira wasn't a great choice to fight Topuria--not that there were any great choices with Islam at WW and Arman ruled out--but his close loss to Arman on its own made him more qualified than Paddy is now and his wins over Dariush, Gaethje, and Poirier are leagues above the best wins of Paddy's career.

Ferguson was on a 6 fight losing streak when he fought Paddy, it is now a 8 fight losing streak. Green's UFC record is 13-12-1-1 (1 draw & 1 no-contest). Chandler had lost 4 of his last 5 fights when he fought Paddy, the only win was vs the ghost of Ferguson (currently on a 8 fight losing streak). I know Paddy looked good but they've absolutely been matching him against guys far past their prime. I still don't buy that Paddy is legitimately a top 5 LW. Barring a hilarious fluke, Topuria kills him

If Paddy is able to apply his wresting and BJJ really well vs the top of the division, like a Gaethje, then I give him a great shot to beat Ilia. In fact, I will favor him over Ilia at that point.

I would favor Paddy over Gaethje, but not Ilia.
