Perfect Time To Make 165(Super Lightweight) & Move Welterweight To 175

Yes, yes, and yes. How come they never started the new division. So many fights in the new weight class and surrounding weight classes would emerge. Contenders, veterans, and former champs would all be going at it in 3 light weight classes.

We need LESS weight classes, not more. Lack of talent. You want to water it down even more ?

I swear you made this thread a couple days ago.

But yeah it was always a good idea, not just today.
I definitely did not, but you can link me the thread so I like the OP

it would just be the same four/five guys, now across four "divisions" doing the same thing.

there is not enough competition and this waters it down way too much.

you create these new "division" and you're still going to have islam as the champ.

four weight champ, defending once a year, against people who can't wrestle.

definitely don't do that.

The athletic commissions already have it figured out.

Weight classUpper weight limit
Strawweight115 lb (52.2 kg)
Flyweight125 lb (56.7 kg)
Bantamweight135 lb (61.2 kg)
Featherweight145 lb (65.8 kg)
Lightweight155 lb (70.3 kg)
Super lightweight165 lb (74.8 kg)
Welterweight170 lb (77.1 kg)
Super welterweight175 lb (79.4 kg)
Middleweight185 lb (83.9 kg)
Super middleweight195 lb (88.5 kg)
Light heavyweight205 lb (93.0 kg)
Cruiserweight225 lb (102.1 kg)
Heavyweight265 lb (120.2 kg)

Ufc and their fans just have to accept it

And don't quote me talking about star power

This reminds me of boxing lol

Islam vs Ilia for the Inaugural Super-Lightweight(165 lbs) Title, winner is the first 3-Division Champion. All the history, stakes, and bad blood would make for a perfect Whitehouse Headliner.

-Morales vs Shavkat for vacant WW(now 175 lbs) title in FEB, Garry/Belal winner gets next.

-Paddy vs Gaethje for vacant 155-lb Title, Arman/Hooker winner gets next.

WME management should force Dana's Hand on this one.
Bullshit WW is killing it. We don't want boxing nonsense.

It's a shit idea.

IDK, there are freak athletes out there that are 300+ pounds who could compete.

I agree that we don't want freak show fighters like Emmanuel Yarbrough and Zuluzinho, or even Hong Man Choi.

But for every 5-10 of these freak shows, there is a butterbean who is actually a legit fighter. Imagine a strong man like Eddie Hall starts training MMA in his 20s, but he can't fight in the UFC because he's 350 pounds? Wouldn't that be a shame?

Maybe the UFC is just waiting for such an MMA fighter to come along and become a star outside of the UFC. Then we might get a change to the HW limit.
Come on brother what ground skills do you think butterbean is going to learn that will wow the crowd instead of make them bored. Any top 5 HW with patience would roll over butterbean the same way they do Tai Tuivasa.

He subbed Zuluzhino as quick as Big Nog did, two minutes into the first round.

I'm not talking about butterbean himself. He's way too old. I'm talking about butterbean's success in boxing as a superheavyweight. He was a legit boxer in the 90s. I'm saying someone like Butterbean, but with wrestling/BJJ experience, could come along and be a legit fighter.

IMO the UFC should get rid of the 265 pound limit and just open the division up. If someone can come and fight and win, then they deserve to be in the UFC HW division. And if they embarrass themselves, just cut them. Simple.

The only thing this idea does is to devalue what it means to be a UFC champ. I'd take fewer weight classes before I'd add one.

Hardcore fans have been saying it for years. The main argument against is that it would weaken the division, but if 155 and 170 were to cut 1/3rd of their division for 165, they would still be bigger than almost every other division. These divisions have gotten log jammed many times dating back to the early 2000s, and that was when they had less fighters.

The jump from 155 to 170 is the biggest size and weight gap in the sport.
170 to 185 is also 15lbs
185 to 205 is 20lbs.

I agree they should do a weightclass every 10 lbs though.

The problem isn;t so much at the 155-175 bracket, it's what happens to 185,195 and 205 if they do things there.

I kinda dislike double champs and I think that was what UFC wants to avoid by not changing it/ making champs drop the belt.
