Oliveira is going to get chinned because of his non-existent head-movement.

Didn't the Pitbull knock out Chandler in the first round in 2019? Pitbull who's shorter, with a shorter reach?

Chandler will go Ngannou style into this one...

If he beats Chandler he will prove he's an elite fighter in my eyes, but it won't prove he's an elite submission grappler regardless of the method, because Chandler is not an elite submission grappler either.

Tony's BJJ is as overrated as Oliveira's is: guy has never outgrappled anyone even remotely elite and was outgrappled by Castillo and non-exhausted Lee. I do not consider Tony an elite grappler.

And I will enjoy his fight against Chandler, this is true. If I didn't anticipate this fight with excitement, I wouldn't be talking about it, lol.

BJJ as a whole in MMA is shit

Oliveira can't win by submission, Paul Felder beat him on the ground.

He has to stand in kickboxing range and batter Chandler with kicks

His head always stays in the center line, whether he's throwing punches or not. Look at how many times he got tagged clean by Kevin lee on the feet because of his lack of headmovement. You can't do that against an explosive powerhouse like chandler.

Oliveira also stands very tall and has a very high guard, which makes him very susceptible to body strikes. As shown in his past fights. And chandler is one of the best at attacking body in 155.

Overall this is a very tough matchup for Charles, If he hasn't fixed his glaring holes in his defense then I don't think he can get out of the first round.

Agree it’s risky. Oliveira looked way too willing to eat shots against Lee. Lee isn’t a big puncher but of course MC is.

IMO Oliveira really needs to stay on the front foot against MC. If he allows himself to get back against the fence I think he’ll get the hammer dropped on him.

If Charles was with an elite camp I would feel better about the fight. I still think he can win because he’s so good everywhere, but it won’t shock me at all to see him crumbled against the fence at some point.

Felder stopped Oliveira with strikes after Oliveira gassed, tried something dumb, ate some elbows and gave up. I agree that fight is concerning but we should hang everything on it. Lee has beaten the shit out of a lot of people on the ground and Oliveira was perfectly find across several exchanges. I won’t believe he can survive major adversity until I see it, but I won’t be worried for Charles at all of this goes to the ground. To me, Chandler’s best chance is to do exactly what he did against Hooker — punch really hard to body and chin.

He actually has some head movement now, but he'll need to use it more than ever yeah.

I agree. In general when you have two very offensive fighters, the power guy is going to beat the volume guy (Almeida/Gardbrandt is a good example). The chances I see for Oliveira are catching Chandler with a good counter, landing a big elbow or knee, or (best option) countering with an elbow or knee. But none of those seem as likely as Chandler just moving forward and applying his standard game against an opponent that seems very vulnerable to it.

I think Chandler as an underdog is the bet of the year. Especially considering the options of winning by ko at around +200 and winning in the first round at around +400.

Chandler by stoppage is a decent bet IMO. Charles can absolutely win this though. Primus got Chandler’s back and had a choke 80% sunk in. If Charles gets anywhere near that position it’s a wrap. If MC shoots a sloppy double like Lee did, it’s a wrap. If MC gets hurt at all and they clinch up, it’s probably a wrap.

We still haven’t seen Oliveira hurt a top fighter standing. It’ll be interesting to see if he can affect MC with punches and/or kicks. If he cannot at all, I think your bet is likely to cash. Charles doesn’t need a KO but I do think he needs to get MC’s respect and force some scrambles.

If Oliveira plans to walk through punches like he recently has been doing.. it ends quickly. If he plans and works around the range, using a lot of kicks and luring Chandler covering the distance into tie ups, this will get really interesting.

My take on this matchup is that Oliveira is the overwhelming favourite. Chandler's height and reach are a weakness that a guy like Oliveira will exploit. He is very good at fighting long and cannot be neutralized with grappling - that's a short fighter's nightmare. Chandler has the early round explosiveness but that window will close fast.

Chandler's starching of Hooker is a blessing for Oliveira, because it should get him to focus on neutralising this threat, steer him away from dangerous waters.

I get what youre saying but his fight tall style works well for him(most of the time) Some guys like fighting tall its not the most defensively safe style but it has some advantages too.

Oliveira also throws good knees to counteract fighters that try to close in on him or go in to body. I have a feeling Chandlers gonna get hit some good knees, and catch hands too.

If Oliveira weathers the intial storm and drags fight out. I think hes got this. Wouldn’t surprise me if he catches Michael in sub in later rounds actually….

That's my only concern in this match up. Otherwise, Da Bronx has more tools, imo. Still, war Charles!
Def more tools. His boxing has looked crisp as of lately. N he’s looked fast. But Chandler is explosive. Can’t wait to see what happens!

who’s in your av bud???? : )

Yeah and Patricio also has a ton more technique and power in those punches. So what's your point? Are you just asking about Pitbull / Chandler because you don't know? They got that shit on the internet if you need the answer.

I think Chandler will KO him, to be honest.

No, I was making a point. Pitbull is shorter, with a shorter reach, but was still able to KO Chandler. So Chandler can be touched. Rushing in, throwing looping punches might not be his best option here. Sorry you didn't understand.
