Xbox Official Xbox thread

Presumably from the exhaust at the top..? Jeff Grubb has ran similar tests.

Forgive me if I'm wrong here, I haven't been following this thread too much because of the trolling, but wasn't the initial issue the external SSD getting too hot?

It was a off hand comment from a member of a podcast which suggested the proprietary SSD was warm while inserted into the console.. which is expected.

It was then was blown up to be mass heating problems.

That dude was from Giant Bomb, and he actually went onto social media to strongly voice his displeasure with how his comments were presented out of context. Some Sony schill outlets-- like one posted by the fanboys who troll this thread-- actually asserted he "burned" his hand on it. He points out in the video you can see he holds it, and merely says, "Wow, it seems kind of warm." He was mostly surprised at the amount of heat being vented by the XSX during idle mode after a minute following a sleep command.

So far the hands-on reviews have indicated the XSX is exceptionally quiet, normally 30 dBA under load, and not more than 36 dBA in any game measured so far. That phenomenal. Sony has similarly been praised for how exceptionally quiet the PS5 is relative to past consoles. The XSX ramps up to a max ~45 dBA, but only during game installations, reportedly.

The PS5, to my astonishment, apparently also runs hotter than the XSX. We still have to wait for the real pros to get more extensive, precise measurements, but this is what we have so far (tweet was already posted by Lucha, but here's the article).

This would be consistent with a previous expert estimate based on SoC's and fan sizes:

So why are people posting temp reading from the exhaust in defense of the overheating accusations of the external ssd?

50C isn't even that hot for an SSD. That's pretty good actually.

LOL, dude, you should stick around. It's hilarious how these headlines become "scandals" because 95%+ of console gamers have no fucking clue how any of the hardware they use works. It's the little things that will sustain one's patience.

how is the power usage compared to a regular xbox one?

As far as the being able to actually see the 60fps though it should be ok right?

Ya 60fps is definitely there, even 120fps at 1080P.

All common resolutions are supported on HDMI ports 1-4, and most on port 5.

Port 5: 4k @ 60 Hz @ 4:4:4 or 4:2:2 color is not supported (not enough bandwidth). HDR is also not supported. 4:4:4 color is shown properly in any picture mode.

Ports 1-4: 4k @ 60 Hz @ 4:4:4 or 4:2:2 is only supported when 'Full UHD Color' is enabled for the port being used. 4:4:4 color is only shown properly in the 'Computer' picture mode.

They mention that there's some input lag when HDR is being used so maybe that's an issue.

I've popped in a couple of times in these threads to dispel some of this shit, like the PS5 SSD is going to be some magical new shit, but the fanboys derp and I just can't.

HDR causes input lag? What?!

Ya that was news to me.

1080p @ 60Hz 15.9 ms
1080p @ 60Hz + HDR 54.4 ms
1080p @ 60Hz Outside Game Mode 82.5 ms
1080p @ 120Hz 10.9 ms
4k @ 60Hz 15.9 ms
4k @ 60Hz + HDR 52.5 ms
4k @ 60Hz @ 4:4:4 52.4 ms
4k @ 60Hz @ 4:4:4 + 8 bit HDR 52.5 ms
4k @ 60Hz Outside Game Mode 82.5 ms
4k With Interpolation 77.6 ms
4k @ 120 Hz N/A
4k with Variable Refresh Rate N/A
1080p with Variable Refresh Rate N/A

Excellent low input lag for SDR content, but only okay input lag for HDR content. HDMI port 5 is a low bandwidth port that doesn't support HDR, but has much lower input lag than the other ports, making it excellent for SDR gaming. We conducted all tests on HDMI ports 1, 2 and 5: ports 1 and 2 have identical input lag within variance, but port 5 has much lower lag for all resolutions that it can support, including 4k @ 60 Hz @ 4:2:0. These results are almost identical to last year's P Series 2016.
