Xbox Official Xbox thread

This isn’t to much of a surprise Xbox was always competitive in the US. It’s worldwide they have issues. Even during the Xbox one launch I remember them doing well at launch and then things started to slow.

In February 2020 they were 5 mil apart and that’s after this long.
No, the PS4's opening week sales in the USA were a whopping 50% better than the Xbox One's (982K vs. 652K). I remember driving to two cities in opposite directions (one 30 mi away, the other 60 mi away) trying to find a PS4 because they were all out online. You couldn't sell a kidney to get one. Meanwhile, there were mountainous stacks of Xbox Ones at the Best Buys, and plentiful inventories everywhere else I looked.

The Xbox One went live for pre-order on May 21st, and by September 4th, they still hadn't sold out:

Question

I got some OG XBOX games, Scarface, Punisher, Hulk etc.

Will these play on the new Xbox or are those games too old for the backwards compatibility? I'd def an XBOX if I could game on those without having to hook up the old console

On backwards compatibility of the XSX & XSS, broadly:
Reason #6: Backwards compatibility
Not just for games, but for accessories that go with the console.
  • 98.1% Xbox One backwards compatibility (2,490 of 2,538 games); or 100% not counting Kinect-only games which the XSX doesn't support
  • 41.1% Xbox 360 backwards compatibility (525 of 1,278 games)
  • 3.9% Xbox backwards compatibility (39 of 996 games)
  • Compatible with all Xbox One accessories except the Kinect; meaning Xbox One controllers and headsets will work on the XSX & XSS
  • Conversely, Xbox Series X controllers will also be compatible with the Xbox One

Microsoft has also announced their "Smart Delivery" service. You need only purchase any game on this service once for either generation, and you are entitled to play it on both console generations, Xbox Series X/S or Xbox One. This "dual entitlement" is what separates it from Sony's "PS5 Upgrade" service. You can see the launch libraries of both services in full here:

That's largely because of how badly Microsoft fumbled during the pre-release stage for the Xbox 1.....Sony had the more powerful console, better exclusives, Microsoft was talking about being online only, not allowing used game sales, telling customers to "deal with it" on Twitter when users were complaining about it. Just horrible all around.

Now they have the more powerful console, better service between the two, offering a better value.....they're only lacking on the games front at the moment.

Oh, I remember. The moment when I realized just how bad Microsoft was going to get creamed when was Facebook literally pulled a poll asking which console their users were going to buy. Something like 94% of respondents voted for the PS4, but the bigger issue was everyone was using the page's comment section to shit on Microsoft. It was supposed to be one of those fun wave-your-colors promotional events really designed to boost sales for both companies, but it turned into a gritty 1970's backwoods horror flick with Sony wielding the chainsaw, so Zuck had to hit the cancel button.

I'm not sure the exclusive imbalance is as great as people are making it out to be. Apart from the earthshaking Zenimax acquisition a few days ago, which will have greater repercussions for the future, here's where it stands:

On backwards compatibility of the XSX & XSS, broadly:

Does that list reflect the backwards compatibility of OG Xbox games on the One as well? I ask because although I rarely play my One S I do have a fairly sizeable amount of Xbox games in a box somewhere under my basement stairs in the crawl space. Looking at that list I’m a little disappointed that Tron2.0 and Silent Hill 2 are not to be found. I haven’t fired up my og Xbox since 2009 when I got my 360 but I doubt it will run due to that apparent faulty capacitor problem.

No idea.

I got a reserve at GameStop for the Xbox series S. The $299 one. I wonder how much I could resell it at come release day.

Some said this would happen, I didn’t think people were that dippy but ......

Theres some speculation that it could also be bots that weren’t properly optimized to target the Series X.

Lastly, you’ve got to assume there’s some well intentioned parents and grandparents in the mix that just don’t know any better and there will be some disappointed kids at Christmas.
