Official Women's Division Discussion #27

Now I know why Taylor Starling quit when she knew she would be in for a beating. It is not worth it for what she was getting paid. I thought BKFC was paying a ton of money the way I heard people talk about them. It is nice to finally have them fight in a location that discloses pay.

Christine Ferea made 22.5k for the title fight.
Taylor Starling made 20k

Cassie Robb made 5k
Jayme Hinshaw made 5k

I'm not so sure dude, she made really hard work of Kyra Batara who's like half her size.

Not really IMO. She stuffed all of Kyra's takedown attempts without much trouble and knocked her down as well. The only concerning part was later in the 3rd round where it looked like she was getting a bit tired and coasting too much which allowed Kyra to rush her down and tag her a couple times.

Giovanna Canuto definitely needs some time to grow as a fighter. Hopefully the UFC signs Amorim and then lets Canuto mature as a fighter while winning/defending the LFA belt for a couple of years.

Definitely massively promising. Looks a little stiff on the feet but she's only 19 and an absolute monster on the ground already.

Amorim I agree is probably ready for the UFC, but probably shouldn't be rushed once she gets there.

It's Batara though, I kind of feel that a top prospect at the weight like say Erin Blanchfield or Dakota Ditcheva would steamroll Kyra.

Like I was saying elsewhere the easiest ways to fix overweights besides fines which obviously don't work with
some is points deductions (1 per round up to 5) and a no contest if the guilty fighter wins. What a punishment
of such accomplishes is the responsible to make weight fighter gets rewarded but the one that is not responsible
is only providing a paycheck to the responsible fighter since most won't want to fight for not do to it not counting.

While I follow them, it’s hard to get excited for LFA fights. The results are too obvious. For example, last night’s title fight, you had the champ Amorim, a known submission fighter facing Nichols, who not only had 1 mma fight in the last four years, but of her three losses going into last night, one was by sub, one by g&p, and a decision to Sharon Jacobson, a wrestler. A challenger who was almost a +400 favorite really tells you how bad the matchmaking was.

it’s not just for Amorim, either. It’s like that for almost all of their fights; obvious favorites getting their records padded. I’ve seen people call out Titan Fights and Fury FC for it, but for some reason those people seem to like LFA *shrugs*

If the best the guilty fighter can do is a no contest, then taking points per round is redundant. Either they can’t win, or they should get points taken, but can win with a finish. Personally, I prefer the latter. It makes for exciting fights.

The flyweight title bout at Double G 13 was a great example of the latter. JeonGYoon Choi missed weight, and was deducted One point per round. So she ended up trying like hell to get the finish

They're not normally quite as bad as that tbf. Just whoever they can find at the time I think. The last title fight Amorim Vs Loveth Young only had Amorim as a small favourite. The male fights are usually competitive too. Titan books squashes all the time.

I wouldn't accuse Fury of it though, they're usually pretty competitive matchmakers.

Personally I think it's time to stop babying fighters who miss weight, especially ones who do so repeatedly. Fights should be automatically scrapped on a weight miss. Fighter who missed weight gets their travel & lodging expenses covered and that's it, opponent gets full show & win money. Miss weight again and you're bumped up a division for your next fight, plus all the above.

Or we could go with my Just Bleed solution: the opponent gets 1 free foul per round per pound over. Eye pokes, groin strikes, soccer kicks, fence grabs, hair pulling, any foul they want to gain an advantage and win the fight is fair game.

So Chiasson couldn't make 135, Ladd can't make 135, and Chelsea Chandler says her bout with Stoliarenko will be contested at 140 because she can't make 135. All these girls need to STAY at 145. Bantamweight is DEAD, a woman who never made 136 is ranked #15 because the division is dead. These weight misses and weight related cancelations are not helping either division, stay at Featherweight and fight each other!! Let the women that can actually make 135, fight in that division.

Chiasson, Ladd, Perez, Fairn, Dumont, Wolf, Chandler, Pascual, Letson. Pit them all against each other, that's how you create movement in the division. Stop wasting everyone's time with these weight misses.

That was a really good win for Gillian Robertson. In the past when things got rough she kind of gave up. This time she got past the hard part and got an amazing sub. No matter how good Agapova did in the 1st she has no cardio. Sooner or later she will get tired and that is when she will make major mistakes. Fending off those takedowns drained her of her energy and in the second it was an easy sub.

Two fighters I was rooting for and picked got great victories.

Gillian Robertson with the fabulous round 2 RNC. She withstood some initial heat from Agapova. Didn't shy away as she sometimes did in the past. Eventually worked her game on the ground. Love her low key personality. Cool that she's setting some submission records.

Loma won by UD. Her Muay Thai is always great. Since entering the UFC she has slowly but surely improved her ground game. It's not amazing and she may have used it too often but at least it didn't cost her the fight. Her standup striking, clinches and elbows from ground and pound are beautiful. For her UFC debut Gomes looked pretty good. She's young, tough and should improve.

Sucks we couldn't see McMann vs. Ladd. McMann and the division deserve better.
