Official Women's Division Discussion #27

That account is notoriously unreliable
Correct me if I am wrong but long time ago I remember hearing that it is automated. It is not unreliable. It just searches for changes in the UFC roster on the website. The reason for those changes is not on the account. It could be a mistake or cut or free agency etc. As long as when a roster change happens it posts it accurately it is reliable.

Edit: Just noticed it also says that it does it automatically in its bio.

This is a little surprising:

McCormack’s their only other Irish girl besides McCourt, and she seemed to get a good pop at their Euro events.

‘Nisse is native to Okinawa, so it was only a matter of time before DEEP announced her for their first event there. A single round exhibition is weird, but I guess this way they can push Kate Lotus some more, while not technically sacrificing the undersized native fighter.

First defense of the Deep microweight title since Oshima won it in Sept 2020. She’s also the deep jewels Atomweight champ, and fought for RIZIN since then. Furuse is an interesting study, being 9-9 while still only 21, including a break for pregnancy. She does her best work at microweight, so this should be fun.

Well, now we know why Bellator hasn’t booked Karina Rodriguez since they signed her.

Bellator better step their women's Featherweight game up, cause their division is looking very thin right now. According to their website, their division consists of: Cyborg, Blencowe, Kavanagh, Silva, McCourt, Zingano, Sorenson, Nogueira, Smith.

You bet everyone but Cyborg would drop down to Bantamweight if Bellator had that division. So they're not much different from the UFC's division which "consists" of Nunes, Dumont, Wolf, Chiasson, Perez, Fairn, Chandler, and the potential for Letson/Ladd/Pascual moving back up or staying at 145 too.

Verdict: Bellator and Cyborg can't say they have the best women's Featherweight "division" anymore. They have 7 fighters ranked, not even 10. The UFC has the option of Bantamweights moving up at any time, a luxury that Bellator doesn't have. Not too long ago they had Pennington, Josiane Nunes, Edwards, Ladd, and Egger competing at 145.

Difference is, Bellator actually has fighters ranked. UFC's listing is embarrassingly blank. Sure, they can have fighters move up for one offs, but that doesn't make them featherweights, nor does it make it a viable division.

There is nothing you can do for 145. It is just too bad in general. It is literally the worst real division in MMA and it is not even close to the next worst. I don't count 155 because it is just a fake division so Kayla don't have to cut weight. I actually think Bellator has done the best they can do for 145. They have a lot of faults but I don't think their handling of 145 is one of them. To put it simply there is no way anyone can turn 145 into a good division. Once you get past the top 3 to top5ish fighters things start to look like regional level talent levels.

My hope if that the UFC drops it and begins building 105. I am at the point where I don't think 105 is going to happen because the UFC took too long and now all the best girls are split in other organizations. Also because the lack of new WMMA stars the UFC is in no hurry to open another division.

Yeah it seemed a while back that the UFC was exploring the possibility of an atomweight division. There was talk of a TUF, which I’d love. I don’t view it as an either / or proposition vis a vis 145.

In Bellator Leah McCourt defeated Dayana Silva by UD. Silva got in a few shots but McCourt was more the aggressor.

Haven’t checked the results of Rizin. Maybe someone can post them and describe how those fights went.

Danni lost her last two bouts, and Bellator signed the Italian girl that beat her

Translation:

1. Knee, it was thought I had a torn meniscus but when they performed the arthroscopy they realized I had excess synovial tissue which was causing me inflammation and pain for almost 10 years (basically my entire MMA career I had this little problem). And the meniscus is perfect, which changed the whole picture of recovery and will be much faster.

2. In my wrist I had a broken triangular fibrocartilage for 3 years, which caused me a lot of pain and instability when training. And many infiltrations to be able to endure the last 3 fights I had. This recovery will be a little slower than the knee, but I'm sure it will be fine.

At least she didn't need very intrusive knee surgery, just sounds like removing scar tissue which is not that bad. The wrist injury is worse but at least she got it finally fixed
