Official Women's Division Discussion #27

I think Valerie needs to cut to a lower division. She looks slow, and not really very powerful - especially for a TKD black belt. A weight cut might give some more speed, and snap.

Struggled thru the youtube Invicta, it was horrible, but worth it. :) Hopefully there will be some real way to stream Invicta very soon, screw Youtube. It was a good show. Became a fan of Fatima Kline. The title fights were cool.

But how in the name of fuck did Zapatella win that last round in the depraved, deluded minds of two judges?

What makes a fighter technical, in your eyes? A large variety of techniques? [roper application of the techniques you possess? Shot selection? Proper form?

Good form, proper application of techniques, makes reads & adjustments to increase the effectiveness of their techniques, good composure under fire, minimal brainfarting.

Mastery of skills including, but not limited to:
Ability to execute effective techniques with minimal effort (paraphrasing a definition of skill from someone else, story there if anyone cares).
A wide array of techniques that meet the above criterion. (meaning, if someone only has one or two decently executed techniques, they need more work regardless of what Bruce Lee said.)
Controlling timing and distance.
Fight IQ (knowing when or when not to do something)
Pacing

I can include more but most would be sub-categories of above and I am sure I forgot something.

Did Valerie get injured in her fight?View attachment 856481
It looks like one of those armbars really did do damage. I was wondering how she was so flexible for a few of them and now we know why. I'll give her one thing she was using that arm like nothing was wrong. She gains my respect for that.

Here is when she broke her arm.

Nah, I think YouTube is probably the best route for Invicta to stream their cards. It's just that AXS TV hasn't had a MMA card in over a year (Combate 56: Fresno), and even then the folks in the production truck didn't have to deal with broadcasting on network TV and streaming on different social media platforms simultaneously. I think it only gets better from here.

From a presentation standpoint I'll give it a grade of a C+. Adding Taryn Temple, a local sports broadcaster, to tell the human interest stories was a nice touch. Although I do miss the media week and promo videos Cynthia Vance would do for their YouTube page.

This is the fight I wanted to see for Rose. Lets see if she improved her wrestling since she last got beat by Carla. Rose has been beating mostly strikers now we can see her vs a wrestler. Can you imagine the hate if Carla wins again?

Another thing I wanted to say is why can't 145 fights ever be FOTN worthy. I try so hard to find a reason to keep them but they never give me something to work with. If you are going to be lower level at least be exciting.

I thought it was a fun fight.

It was not boring but we never have any 145 fights where at the end of it the crowd is cheering or the 1st thing you say is "damn that was a good fight!". I can't think of many or any from Bellator, PFL or the UFC. Obviously I am excluding Nunes vs Cyborg. That was one of the best fights ever for me.

The crowd was excited when Megan KO’d Dumont

Personally I think most title/title contender 145 fights in Invicta were tremendous fun, all of Spencer's bouts there, all of Meegan's fights, sure they were sloppy but they were entertaining.
Even watching the Borg KO some can got Invicta their biggest crowds (and a KO is always fun even though I turn off and go to bed when Cyborg came on as matter of principle).
Not 'UFC' level though.
I did like this fight too.

Anyway Norma claims the prestigious 'best 145 woman in the world (apart from the 2 actually good ones)' belt that I made up that Spencer used to have following her Invicta run.
I'm surprised Spencer didn't try to press the grappling more since getting a TD was her clearest hope for victory (too bad she doesn't have good TDs), but she ended up on her back more herself. That said, it was still close and I thought she might edge it on the scorecards (rd1 being a total coinflip).

Also Dumont looked huge IMO, I know Spencer said she can't make 145 which some ppl doubt, to me she looks super thicc so maybe with hardcore diet/nutrition she could but I think it would drain her hugely; but Dumont looked even bigger, & given her problems making 135 thus far, I don't know how she's gonna do it...
