Official Women's Division Discussion #27

The UFC must be hurting for 135ers. I guess. Don’t understand why they don’t just sign Hope Chase and Tenisha Tenet.

They must be, if they're willing to give Zarah Fairn another chance at bantamweight, and have Joselyne Edwards remain there, when she had stated that she'd be moving down to flyweight. Dumont also said she's moving back down after this weekend, regardless of the result. That's all good news for bantamweight, but bad news for 125/145.

Sucks for those two divisions, but Bantamweight desperately needs a breakthrough of new talent. The biggest issue isn't the fact that Nunes/GDR/Holm are still better than, and will merk these other fighters, but the fact that there's few new girls coming in.

I think the solution is to get rid of 135. And just have all 135s and 145s fight at 145.

Then you match Megan Anderson and Felicia Spencer with fighters closer to their skill level instead of forcing them into title-shots. You’ll have competition for Kayla Harrison when she signs. And the girls get to cut less weight. Amanda Nunes is already the champion of both divisions.

Like men’s HW has a 60 pound range. There should be something similar for women.

Will forever have a crush on Janay Harding..

It's probably because she looks dead on my childhood friend/crush (same height and body build as well, when she got older of course), who my dumb ass should have put more effort in getting when I was younger... but nope.. I was a spoiled idiot.

But back to Janay, hope she pulls it off.. but I hope they don't rush her to fight Cyborg. :/

<DCrying><{1-11}>I used a vacation day to catch this. It better not be just one or two weeks later, when coworkers vacations get in the way.

I guess you have some thoughts? Too radical?

"Hey 135ers, we know that bantamweight is a long established division, the first brought into the UFC and the once marque women's division, and we know you've all been fighting at 135 for most of, if not all of, your careers, but see, we have these 145ers, less than 5 of them now, and we can't figure out what to do with them. So, we're going to eliminate your division, eliminate your rankings, and force you to fight at featherweight now to beneift these few fighters. hanks, we knew you'd say sure (because' it's not like you have a choice anyway, HAHAHHA). So get ready to fight 10lbs heavier."

I came across this tweet at how a possible 145 division would be if it were not fragmented and the UFC actually put effort to make it. Do you guys think this would be an interesting enough division for it to be a real division in the UFC? This person did not add Cyborg and she will never rejoin the UFC but this is more about in the best case scenario can 145 have a decent division? Would you add anyone to this list?

^ Missing Arlene Blencowe, although she'd probably drop down to her real weight class (which is bantamweight), and so would Zingano. I'd even add Sarah Kaufman, Oleyna Kolesnyk, Leah McCourt, and Larissa Pacheco.

Dropping down a weight class is the biggest issue actually: the women who are able to make bantamweight, would drop down in an instant: Zingano, Letson, Sorenson, and perhaps Young (Dumont would try again lol). Then you're left with a "stacked" Top 5 again, including a woman with one professional fight in her record.

The UFC would have to make it a stipulation in their contract, that they'd have to remain at Featherweight for at least a certain amount of fights; otherwise they'd leave in a heartbeat.

Heck, they could "lower their standards" and sign girls with little experience to fight in that weight class, like they did with Malecki and Dumont; and pit them all against each other as a way to develop their talents/skills AND the division itself. But they're not interested in building it, and bitches are not REALLY interested in competing at that weight class either (looking at the ones claiming they would, but don't really mean it... Tate, Chiasson, Ladd, GDR).

I'd throw Chelsea Chandler in there personally.

Imagine all these girls plus the girls at 135 in one super stacked division. There would a lot of different combinations of fights that could made. A lot of new life in the UFC matchmaking. The division would be hella stacked.

This is why I think a fusing 135 and 145 into a single division would be the best solution.
