No Spoilers Official The Callisto Protocol Discussion [PS/PC/Xbox]

I seen GameSpot gave it a 5 because it was too difficult. Polygon said the same as well.
It’s difficult because they completely botched fighting against multiple enemies in close quarters. Maximillian Dood watch quit and deleted the game because of it. You can’t see enemies from the side or behind you and they do a lot of damage. I’m so disappointed. Oh well I’ll definitely be buying Dead Space remake instead now

I bought the game earlier and to my horror saw all the reviews saying the combat was bad. I then started the game about an hour ago and so far what I've seen, the combat is pretty fun, definitely not as bad as people are saying. I like the dodge mechanic. So far I'm liking the game (ps5)
Yeah it seems like the worst reviews are for the PC version which sounds absolutely broken. PS5 seems to get a lot of good optimized games for some reason.

Needless to say i'm not getting Atomic Heart until i see reviews.

Preordered. The last three games I preordered were Battlefield 2042, CyberPunk 2077 and Evolve. If the game is terrible at launch you guys can blame me.

OK so I'm a few hours into it . The game play mechanics are SO different than what I was expecting haha. But despite the reviews I dig it !

I know it's gonna disappoint some , the first hour or so took some getting used to. After playing GOW before this , everything feels so fucking heavy, this guy doesn't flow like Kratos.

The melee actually reminds me a lot of sifu if anyone played that. I really like the combat. Feels heavy and it's quite fucking hard , I just kept reloading the first few battles to pick up the feel for it and I've died little bit. Once you get it and start making some moves i found it pretty fun.

Bonus points for looking amazing, killer atmosphere and incredible sound design.

That's what I see anyways. Hope others enjoy it some

Despite the mediocre reviews I really hope they can deliver on the updates and it seems like they've laid the groundwork for great sequels.

Two things to keep in mind -

*This is a new studio, which means they took out massive loans to get everything up for a 3-year development cycle. They needed to release a game to make back some big money so their investment showed big profit to attract future investors.

*As for the hype train with all the marketing that made our expectations for this to be the GOAT survival horror game... unfortunately that's how the industry is now. There's practically TOO MUCH competition between all the new games being released around the holidays and everyone already having a huge backlog of games to play. The marketing basically has to scream 'PAY $75 TO PLAY ME NOW OR YOU'RE POOR' to attract enough gamers to buy the game for it to be deemed a success. And survival horror is a niche genre by itself.

This isn't a Cyberpunk2077 situation in which the studio was already a big name and could fund another 2+ years of development to make it right.

So, I'm really hoping we'll see some positive headlines about the sales in the upcoming weeks. Space/SciFi/Horror needs more franchises, and Survival Horror needs more original titles instead of remakes.

Great post man. Including callisto, there's 4 horror games I've got my eye on in the next year and that's the only non remake lol

Yep, lets see how this all plays out.

I'm looking forward to the Dead Space remake the most. Basically all they have to do is cut&paste everything with better graphics & updated gameplay mechanics and it's probably going to be the best of the bunch.

RE4make.... as I said, we really don't know how they're going to do much of the game. Namely the video-gamey castle, when practically all of the REmakes have at least tried to make it look more 'realistic' so lets see what they do.

We need those ?? Removed from SH2

I’ve never played Dead Space so I’m stoked about that. RE4 is not nearly as fresh as people remember. The HD remaster mod was a great stepping stone but it did nothing to fix the flaws of game design from nearly 20 years ago. I’m looking forward to what Capcom will do with it given their recent run of RE titles.

The originals are still there for anyone who doesn’t see value in these.

Comments like that always kill me. They can create a patch within hours to fix those issues, but they couldn't do it before release? They were totally in the dark to PC performance issues, before it launched?

Anyways, it honestly sounds like a decent game that's getting slammed for minor nitpicks, like a few difficulty spikes(in a survival horror game? No way!), and linear level design.

It’s getting to the point where a lot of gamers will dismiss any game that’s sub 85. I’ve been guilty of that.

Already bought it so I’ll just keep it and see what I think for myself.

Its called the contrarian olympics.

Well count me in the group that’s thoroughly enjoying it so far. I’m a couple of hours in and playing on the hardest difficulty (might have been a mistake) and after getting a feel for the combat I’m really digging it.

The atmosphere is handled incredibly well, especially with headphones. I was able to track something crawling through the vents with crazy accuracy. There are things whispering, growling, screaming, all around you. Pretty fantastic.

Combat is fine, pretty simplistic but I’m starting to open up the arsenal and seeing the capabilities of everything is making me realize I’m going to have to approach fights with some actual thought which is refreshing.

Graphics are phenomenal but I the HDR implementation is terrible. Darks are way too bright and it took me a while to get used to it. Shame because this game could really benefit from it.

I think the learning curve is a bit steep and it’s going to throw some people off but if you stick with it the gameplay really starts to flow and I’m having a blast with it. See if it can keep this up.
